Chapter 10

It took forty minutes of fast paced driving in the speed boat. There hadn't been a single sight to see he entire trip. No islands, no sight of the country, not a single thing but the endless water.

There had been constant fighting in the backseat. Ava had been a real grouch because she didn't get the front seat. There had been a constant stream of snarky comments from the second she plopped down in Aaron's lap again. Of course, Jennifer had replied to everything coming out of Ava's mouth with an even nastier comment. And because of this it had been a very long trip. It wasn't until Aaron at last snapped and placed his hand over his sister's mouth ten minutes ago that they had gotten any peace.

But by then, his amusement from the other three passengers had disappeared, and now they all sat, silently glaring out into the horizon.

But now, just fifty minutes after they left the docks, Jennifer jumped up and pointed to the right.

"There!" She yelled.

Five heads turned around in the direction her finger pointed.

"At least there's something..." She added, squinting in the distance.

"Where?" Aaron asked. He couldn't see a thing.

Jennifer turned around to look at him.

"You don't see that?" She asked.

Her head turned back around.

The island she saw seemed to be floating around, moving slightly to the left as they came closer. It was big, she couldn't see over to the other end. But that may be because there was a forest of dark trees covering at least half the island. The part she could see was a large, green plain. At one end, he tall cliff sides lowered into a small beach side.

Aaron squinted, trying to see what Jennifer saw. But he couldn't.

"I can't be the only one who sees it," Jennifer muttered to herself.

"I see it," Drew agreed.

Alex and Rebecca nodded in agreement, showing Aaron that he was the only one who didn't see the island.

Jennifer was completely mesmerized at the island. It was such a beautiful sight. Still, a lingering thought captured her attention.

The sailors at the docks had said the Island could only be seen by those with pure intentions.

She forced her attention from the beautiful island that seemed to glow in the sunlight. She focused on Aaron, and saw his head whipping from side to side in confusion.

"You can't see it?" She asked him.

Aaron shook his head, without quite meeting her eyes.

Jennifer's look hardened as her thoughts were confirmed. She hadn't trusted him from the start. And now she had confirmed that his intentions weren't completely pure at heart.

Alex turned the gear shift and the boat lurched forward in the general direction of the moving island.

It took five minutes to get to where the island skipped into the sea, by the small beach.

He stopped the boat just a few inches away from the sand. He jumped up from the boat and landed on the beach. Rebecca followed right after him.

"Hey! Are you not going to help us?" Ava snapped, struggling to get out of Aaron's lap.

Rebecca an Alex glanced at each other.

"Nope!" They said in unison before they turned around and walked of the beach.

Aaron groaned as he pushed Ava off of him.

"An hour with you on my lap is more than enough," Aaron told her.

He stood up and jumped off the boat. As he jumped over the sand that was invisible to him it felt like he jumped through a shield.

Just when he landed the sand became visible under him.

Jennifer and Drew stood up walked off the boat.

"Drew help me with the boat, since Alex ran away," Aaron said when Drew hit the sand.

Drew walked into the water and began dragging the boat towards shore.

Ava jumped down just as Aaron began pushing on the other side.

"Thanks for the help, brother," Ava spat at Aaron before she walked after Jennifer.

Rebecca was walking over the large green field. The green seemed to glow under the sunlight. A path curled around the island, following after the ocean. Rebecca sat down in the middle of the island. Alex sat down next to her. They were both staring at over the horizon. Silently they took in the sight of the magnificent island.

Jennifer was running around, the wind blowing around her face softly. She felt free and peaceful. The green grass tickled her bare ankles. The sun was shining at her face. She laughed out loud. After so long pressed together on the boat it was great with the fresh air blowing in her face.

Drew ran after chuckling as he caught up to her. He captured her in his arms and spun her around.

Jennifer jumped out of his arms and ran towards the tallest cliff on the left side of the island.

The ocean was spreading around her like a gigantic blue carpet, shimmering in the sunlight. She was captivated by the beauty of it all. A human girl's face suddenly jumped out of the waves. She was followed by several more, and then their tails followed after them.

She sat down on the cliff's edge, staring out.

Drew stood halfway to the cliff, staring at his girlfriend wig adoration clear in his eyes. He hadn't seen her peaceful in a long time, so he decided he would her alone for the time being. He turned round and walked over to Alex and Rebecca.

"Do you think this is it?" He asked as he sat down next to Rebecca in the grass. "Mag Mell, I mean."

Rebecca nodded slightly.

"I think I read in that book that only a selected few could see it. We know Aaron couldn't see it and Ava didn't say anything, so it’s possible she didn't either." She said.

Drew nodded in agreement.

"So what do us so now?" Alex asked.

Rebecca turned around and looked at the forest looming in the distance. She could clearly see the half rotten trees, the dying grass and his lack of light.

"Where do you think an ancient, super-evil villain has his headquarters?" She asked.

Drew and Alex looked back.

The trees were tall, and though the first few ones seemed green they could clearly see that the rest that lay behind were dead and rotten.

"You think he's in there?" Alex asked dubiously.

"Well, the story said that Mag Mell would slowly rot over beginning where the evil was most prominent. This field is clearly no affected yet," Rebecca asked.

"Do you honestly want to go in there?" Drew asked.

He would never admit it, but the thought if going there scares him. The tall, dark trees and the possibility of running into somehow evil...

"No," Rebecca answered honestly. "But I do want be done with all this and if I have to go in there for that to happen then I will go in there."

Drew glanced behind one more time.

"Then let’s get this over with."

Then he stood up and began walking me. The general direction of the first.

Jennifer saw the movements in the corner of her eye. She stood up to fools behind Drew, Rebecca an Alex. At the last minute before she disappeared inside, she spotted Ava and Aaron running to catch up.
