Chapter 17
“Don’t do it, Aaron. Just let me go,” Rebecca asked when Zsolt was gone.
Aaron began walking towards her.
“I can’t Rebecca, you know I can’t,” Aaron replied.
“Yes, you can. Tell him I was too fast for you. Tell him Drew hurt you already and because of that you couldn’t catch me. I know you can work that limp,” Rebecca tried to convince him.
Aaron seemed not to be listening to her.
“How did you know about Ava?” he asked her instead.
Rebecca backed away as he came closer, trying to reach the doorway.
“The look you got in your eyes when she said she could feel energies. That’s not a normal power for a regular witch, is it? Tell me, what is so special about her?” Rebecca asked.
A wave of anger passed over his face before he masked it into a blank expression.
“My mother is a descendent of one of the original witches, like Niall is,” Aaron began.
“Anna, right?” Rebecca recalled from the few times Ava had talked about her mother.
“Right,” Aaron nodded. “Anna Fitzgerald who took her daughter when she left our family and left me with a man who is not my father.”
Rebecca stopped her movements when she heard him say that.
“What?” she asked incredulously.
“I know you heard me. Ben Bright is not my father,” Aaron clarified.
“But… But Niall O’Dwier said that Anna met Ben and they had a son together,” Rebecca said, completely lost at what was happening.
“Niall O’Dwier is a fool. Mom played him for years before she met Ben, and she has continued to do so ever since. He only knows what she told him, as he is completely worthless as of today. He has given her what she wanted the most, and that is you guys,” Aaron told her.
Rebecca tried to sort all of this new information in her head.
“But what does your father and Ben fit into all this?” she asked.
“No one, except Anna, knows who my father is, and she is not exactly forthcoming on the information front. But Ben, he is the descendant of the last of the three original witches. Ava, being the descendant of two of the most powerful bloodlines in this world will have more powers than anyone else. She just doesn’t know it, and she has never wanted to believe,” Aaron told them.
“But… You look so much like Ben…” Rebecca murmured, recalling the few times she had met Ben Bright.
“I know, but that is simply a coincidence. You see, the original witches had a tremendous amount of power, and that kind of power combined when only two of the originals remain will be so big that the world can’t handle it twice. If Ben had been my real father, I would have had the powers, and Ava wouldn’t have existed, simply because the kind of power she has is so big, though it’s only under development still,” Aaron explained.
Rebecca nodded along, though she didn’t understand a word he had just said. She had slowly begun to pull herself backwards and noted with satisfaction that Aaron hadn’t continued to follow her.
She was almost to the hidden doorway when something hit her from behind and she went down as the world was surrounded by blackness.

Jennifer had now given up trying to use the wind to untie the knots and had settled for wiggling her wrists until they escaped. It hadn’t worked so far, and she had been trying for at least an hour.
