Katniss POV:

All the girls and people who have come in from the hallway that still remain from my little routine stare at Cressida. Some of the girls around me are even shaking.

Annie has taken to gripping my arm like a vice. But I don't really care I just stare waiting for the name. Annie was amazing and there was this other girl named Glimmer who has always been the head cheerleader so I'm guessing it will stay that way. Cressida makes us all wait a long time. Finally she utters the name.

"Katniss Everdeen!" My eyes widden. That's what the whole standing up in front thing was about.

I have to say in the back of my mind I was hoping thats what it was about but I wasn't sure so I didn't want to seem cocky or anything so I let myself believe it could never happen like I always did.

Annie's screaming her head off right next to me jumping up and down still clutching my arm tightly.

"I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!" She screams smiling wider then I thought was humanly possible.

I sit there in shock for a bit and then let a smile cross my face and I start to laugh and bounce up and down with her. For once I'm going to let myself enjoy something.

Ever since the accident I have been a bratty girl and I want to change that now. I like being happy. I was just to hurt before. But now I'm away from that and I need to be happy.

I start to scream happily and get a very suprised look from Annie as she then starts to smile some how wider and I just laugh harder, harder then I have laughed in such a long time.

After all classes:

I'm walking down the school hallway with Annie and some how I'm still smiling. I guess Annie just brings it out of me.

When we get to my locker I unlock it and shove my stuff that I don't need in and grab all the stuff I do need and shove it in my backpack.

Once I zip it on I throw it over one of my shoulders and slam my locker shut because it won't just close nicely of course.

Locking it I walk off with Annie to her locker as she keeps talking to me about how happy she is about me being cheer captain. I smile at her. Then realize I should thank her for dragging me there.

"Well I wouldn't have been a cheerleader if it weren't for you, so I guess I owe it all to you. Being the captain and everything. You have been so nice and it's only the first day that I have been here. So thank you for being such a grest friend I guess." I take a leap of faith with saying friend. I'm hoping she sees me as a friend anyway.

Annie gets up from zipping up her back, instead of throwing her backpack over one shoulder she gently puts it on her back sliding both of her arms through each strap.

As she gently closes her locker and locks it she turns to me and I notice the tears that are threatening to slip out.

My eyes widen and I'm suddenly scared. I don't remember saying anything that should have made poor Annie cry. I slowly put my hand on Annie's shoulder.

"I'm sorry what did I say?" I whisper gently not wanting to make it worse. Annie looks at me and starts to giggle through her tears, choking up once in awhile.

"It's just... it's just... no one... has every said anything so nice to me before..." Annie says snuffling lightly. I happily sigh lightly knowing that I did nothing to make Annie cry. I step forward and hug her tightly. Then I step away just a little bit.
