Chapter Eighteen: Ah, Sweet Revenge
“Busted is right. Nico, do you realize what the gods would do to you if they realized that you told everyone this?”
“I only told them because of Zoe!” Chiron shifted his gaze to me and my heart started to quicken. Great wait to throw me under the bus Nico. There was no doubt that the gods would kill me now. “No! Wait! I didn’t mean that it was her fault or anything… I told everyone.”
“Nico! I called a meeting because I found this shirt.” I through the shirt at him.
“And then I got these.” I held out my wrist.
He knit his eyebrows. “Well, this is certainly interesting. And something that should be addressed by the gods immediately.” Chiron said.
“Well… actually… I have already discussed it with a god. He told me I had to go to the meeting on June 21.” I said, desiding that now was as good a time as ever to tell them about that.
“Which god?” Connor asked.
“Not Apollo by any chance?” Annabeth asked me. I shot daggers at Annabeth, who just simply laughed.
“Why would you tell Apollo?” Connor asked.
“It’s a long story okay! And it doesn’t really matter why I told him. The point is, is that I did and now I have to go to Olympus to tell the others.”
“You mean we.” Maria said.
“What?” I asked her.
“You said ‘now I have to go to Olympus’” Travis said with a very poor imitation of my voice. “But you don’t think you’re getting rid of us that easily, do you?” the others nodded, agreeing with Travis.
“You guys can’t come. It could be dangerous.” I said, hoping that would change their mind.
“Which is exactly why we have to go.” Nico said.
“Exactly.” said Connor.
I frowned. “Chiron, you can’t let them go. Some of your best fighters and leaders at camp could all be killed by the gods through anger at me. Would you really want that?” I said, trying to make it sound like the gods would kill us all.
He smiled. “Zoe, I do not think that the gods would kill you. So I think it will be perfectly fine if they go with you. Besides, they could actually help you if they go.”
“How could they?” I asked, getting a little angry.
“You’ll see.” Chiron said. “Nico, I heard that you were going on a little… uh… trip.” He changed the subject. Nico nodded, looking skeptical. “Please take Zoe and Connor with you. You don’t really need to take Connor, but I would recommend you do. Now, I was just coming back to go get my deck of cards. Mr. D is back and we are going to play a nice game of backgammon (is that what it’s called?).” and with that he left us all.
I looked around at everybody. I had no idea what to say. Nico was the one to break the silence. “Zoe, Connor” he said Connor’s name like it was dirt. “I plan on leaving sometime tomorrow. You don’t really need anything. I don’t plan on staying for too long. You might want to pack an extra pair of cloths, but I would not recommend wearing your orange camp t-shirt, Zoe.”
“What about me?” Connor asked.
Nico gave him a small smile. “As much as I would like to see what Octavian would do if he saw that on you… on second thought, wear the shirt Connor.” I didn’t know what he was talking about, but I assumed it was supposed to be an insult.
