It's Sunday, mom already left for work leaving me the ENTIRE day to sleep in. Or so I thought....
"C'MON MEL GET UP!" Wren yells at me for the fifth time. Each time I pretend that I'm still asleep so I don't have to. She chucks a pillow at me which knocks me off of my bed.
"You did not just do that!" I say half giggly before I take a pillow of my own and smack her upside the head. She dodges it with ease before pulling me to my feet.
"Uh yeah I kinda did. So can you please get ready now?" She's been trying to get me to go with her to a party that's tonight.
"Fine but you owe me!" I mumble under my breath to no one in particular. Wren left five minutes later saying that she'd be back at 8:30 to pick me up.
I quickly showered, did my make up the best I knew how to do, did my hair, and changed into the clothes laying out for me to wear. (a pair of skinny jeans, a sparkly black and silver strapless shirt, covered up with a black leather jacket, and some spiky black stilettos to top it off...) Checking the time I realized that it's 8:20 meaning I have ten minutes to relax.
We pull up at Caitlyn's house and begin to make our way through the crowds of people and into the house. A sad thing about these parties is that in school I'm invisible and NO ONE knows me (well except for Wren) but at these parties everyone seems to remember me from the last one I seemingly attended.
I somehow ended up on the dance floor with two guys from school and Wren nowhere to be seen.
After a few quick dances I walk over to where Caitlyn's drinks are and against my wishes end up drinking a beer.I am somehow upside down on a keg chugging away at the contents with no idea how I got here.
Next thing I know is that I'm being set right side up again away from the keg and the crowd is cheering. Did I do something funny?
Getting up from my spot I go in search for Wren who in fact has been missing since we walked in.
Turning a corner I saw her with my ex making out. It took me a second to register everything because I've had way to much to drink at this point. Then everything clicks into place.
I silently turn around sending her a text that "I'm going home and to have fun." Walking out I grab another bottle of beer and leave the party for good.
Walking down the driveway with beer in hand I bump into someone. "Hey watch it!!" I hiss not even aware who I'm talking to until I look up into the very concerned eyes that belong to Taylor.
"Melissa is that you? Of course it's you dumb question you just look different." He spaces off staring into my face at loss for words and then finally saying "Hey are you crying?"
I reach up to feel my face which is in fact wet and sticky from unconsciously crying. "Maybe why does it matter to you anyway so you can get more laughs out it out of ME?" I say fading off at the end and accidentally shedding a couple more tears. I turn around and begin to walk away only to find him having hold of my wrist.
Turning me around to look at him he simply states, "My intention was never to mock you Mel only to help. I'm sorry."
Taylor still having hold of my wrist picks me up and carries me to an unknown car which I assume belongs to him and places me inside. "It's okay," I murmur half to myself and half to him.
I don't understand what it is about Taylor Johnson that made me tell him why I was upset, or how he calmed me down but sped my heart up at the same time, but I don't know if I want to as long as he continued to listen.
Taylor was silent for a long time processing what I had just finished saying, he didn't say a word or move a muscle... Finally after what felt like a century he spoke "They don't deserve you and it's a shame too because you're beautiful and amazing. Don't let them win, you have to stay strong okay?" He pauses wiping a few tears that were shed off of my cheek and then continues "But if you're willing and interested I would love to be your friend and witness the real Melissa Hemingsway...."
I looked at him my eyes wide in complete shock and said the only reasonable answer coming to my mind....
Yes
