It's finally the day I get to go home!! I've been in the hospital for three weeks, with its plain white walls, stale smell, and grouchy people, and now I am finally getting to go home. I'm waiting for my mom to sign some important papers and then we can go. She pops her head in smiling wide and says, "Lets go kiddo."
As my mom and I are loading up the car, I ask if we can get some ice cream. She takes awhile to respond, giving me this weird look. "You just got out of the hospital and that's the first thing you want to do, get ice cream?" I nod my head. "Well okay then, lets go," she says and we get in the car and head towards the Sweet Shop across town.
As we're driving by school, I begin to worry about what everyone will think of me, and if Wren is still going behind my back and dating Max. I try not to think about Taylor, because lately that's all I've been doing and I don't know why I mean its not like I like him or anything. I realize that maybe moms right and I'm not ready to go back to school.
My mom notices my mood and decides to turn on the radio to our favorite song. That helps, but not all of the worry goes away. She starts belting out the chorus and I can't help but laugh.
When we pull in the drive, I've gotten most of my Oreo Blizzard finished and my mom has pretty much completed her Sundae. My mom says something about ordering take-out for dinner and I mumble an "okay," not really listening. All I can really think about, is him and if I'll have to face him tomorrow or not.
Heading upstairs, I decide to work on the rest of my homework that I've managed to collect over the couple weeks that I've been out. Before starting, I get up and put my hair in a bun, then go over to my dresser and plug my iPod into my dock. Starting my music, I go back over and pick the first subject out of the pile of things to work on. Looking down at the title, I grown internally. Why? Because it's science... I flip open to the marked page and start.
I finish with my last assignment just as mom calls me down to eat. Looking over at the clock that's flashing 7:32, I count that I've been doing homework for nearly 4 hours. Getting up I go over to my iPod and pause the song currently playing. I swing my door open and yell to my mom that I'll be down in a sec.
Seating myself at the table, mom bring the food in that the delivery guy just brought. "Did you get all of your homework done?" She asks me taking a seat herself and starting to eat.
I start to eat my food as well. "Yea, just finished." I say my mouth full of rice.
"Well, just let me know if you change your mind on going tomorrow," she tells me and then the rest of the conversation goes quiet.
I cleared my plate and went to my room. I'm not really in the mood to try to converse with anyone, especially, my mom, and all I want to do is sleep for awhile.
While I'm laying on my bed, I turn on my phone, and put on my headphones, trying to block out the world if only for a little while.
About halfway through listening to "This is the Gospel," my phone rings, shutting off my music. Picking up my phone off of the night stand, I glance briefly at the screen before letting it go to voicemail. (Which I probably won't answer anyway).
It makes sense, I don't have any friends, so looking at the screen I was suprised to see Wren calling me. Before I had a chance to process everything further, my phone started to ring- again.
Feeling annoyed, I picked up the phone:
M:"Hello?"
W: "Hey M, listen can we talk? I just really want to apologize for being such a stupid friend?"
M: (NO RESPONSE)
W: "PLEASEE???"
M: *SIGH* "Fine tomorrow at 12:30, Ame's bakery. You're buying though."
W: "Deal!! And Mel, I really am sorry."
We both hung up, and I put my phone back on my stand. Feeling really tired all of a sudden, I drifted off into an uneasy sleep. One, that was filled with dreams I would only later come to understand.
