It had been six days since Isabel's first night out with Sebastian. Every day since then they had seen each other once Sebastian was free from interviews and Isabel had finished at TwoKeys. It was Saturday afternoon and Sebastian had managed to wrangle the day off by begging his agent and schmoozing her with jelly beans. Both him and Isabel were sitting outside a popular New York restaurant enjoying the beaming sun and the bustle of the lunch hour rush. They sat opposite each other, with Sebastian reaching over and gently holding Isabel's hand in his own. Though the day spent so far had been lovely, they both sensed that the dreaded conversation was coming, so Isabel bit the bullet before he could.
"We have to talk about this you know."
Sebastian flicked his eyes up at her. They were almost cyan in colour in this light. He sighed slightly and sipped his diet coke.
"I know. I kinda just don't want to." He wrinkled his nose at the idea.
"Long distance is tough. I would understand if it would be too much. I know you're always so busy travelling and I..."
Before she could finish Sebastian grabbed her hand in both of his and shushed her gently.
"Isa...There's no way I'm ending what we have just because we live in different cities and you're leaving tomorrow. I want to stay with you. I want to hear your voice every day and I want to be the one that puts that smile I love so much on your face. So of course I'm going to stay right here."
Isabel sat still in shock. She wasn't expecting such a heartfelt confession. And in that moment, as he stared up at here with utmost sincerity in his eyes, she had a lightbulb moment.
"I have an idea. And please don't freak out or think too much of it because it's just an idea." She sucked in a breath before continuing as Sebastian furrowed his brow.
"I've always loved New York. And given that there's an office here, it wouldn't be too hard to get a transfer. It would take about a month or so and I'd have to do some serious begging to have Amanda let me go. Of course I'd get my own place and what not."
She sped through her sentences faster than she could draw breath, fearing that what she was saying would be too much for the actor in front of her. Too much commitment too fast?
She watched his face carefully, those eyes always giving her so much insight and yet so little. Finally he said,
"No."
Isabel lowered her head as she felt the tears prick behind her eyes. She wasn't surprised at his comment, but it hurt a lot more than she expected. Of course he would say no. It had been 6 days. No couple in their right mind would uproot their lives after only being together for less than a week. She felt his hand press against her cheek and gently lift her face. He was looking at her squarely in the eyes, never once leaving her. He opened his mouth to speak.
"No Isa. You wont get your own place. You'll stay with me."
He stood from his chair and bent low to pull her into a deep kiss. His newly shaven face so supple against her cheek, his hair falling over his eyes and tickling her nose. So lost in her joy was Isabel that she forgot where she was, and as she raised her arms to wrap them around his neck, she knocked the table in front of her, spilling her own lemonade down Sebastian's front shirt.
"Shit! Im so sorry Seb!"
He jumped back as the cold liquid spilled down his clothes, making him laugh raucously as he watched Isabel fret over him.
"It's fine hon don't worry at least it's clear. I will need to change though."
With that statement the couple left their seats and headed to Sebastian's apartment.
