Eadlyn's POV
"Hey, Eadlyn, wait up."It was Kile, jogging to catch up with me. I hadn't even looked at him when I went into the dining hall this morning. His lip was a little swollen, but he seemed okay otherwise.
"Are you all right?" he asked.
I nodded my head...then shook it. "I really don't know."
He put his hands on my shoulders. "Everything's okay."
I was so overwhelmed, I pressed my lips into his, knowing that would make everything else stop for a minute.
"Ow!" he cried, backing away.
"Sorry! I just-"
He grabbed me by the wrist and swung me into the nearest room, slammed the door, and pushed me against the wall. He kissed me harder than I'd kissed him, apparently not bothered by his lip so much if he knew what was coming.
"What's this all about?" he breathed.
"I don't want to think. Just kiss me."
Without a word, Kile drew me to him, his hands lost in my hair. I grabbed fistfuls of his shirt, holding on to him tightly.
Suddenly the door opened and light spilled into the room. I squinted, my eyes still adjusting from the dark. What I saw made my heart stop and my stomach drop.
It was Erik.
"Oh, um, I'm sorry. I didn't know...um..." he stuttered. He kept looking between me and Kile, still pressed against the wall, and his expression was so mixed up I couldn't make out anything he was thinking.
Slowly I pushed Kile away from me, shocked by what Erik had seen. I'd never thought about what it would be like if he saw me kissing one of the boys. And for some reason, it was embarrassing.
"Kile, maybe you should go," I whispered quietly. "I'll, um, talk to you later." I could feel my cheeks getting warmer every second, and I avoided eye contact as much as possible.
"Alright then," Kile squinted uncertainly. "See ya around." He walked out the door, barely glancing at Erik on his way.
Finally, after making sure Kile was gone, I ran a hand through my hair and let out a breath I hadn't known I'd been holding.
"Well this is awkward," Erik chuckled nervously, walking into the room. He stopped and tilted his head at me, obviously confused. "Why'd you make him leave and not me?"
I smiled shyly. Why was I always so shy around him? "Because you're better company."
"Oh really?" He asked skeptically. "How so?"
"You smell better," I said matter-of-factly. We stood still for a minute, staring at each other boldly. Suddenly he burst out laughing. His laughter made me laugh, even though I didn't know what we were even laughing about.
The more I laughed, the harder it became to stand up. I fell down on the floor, arms tight around my sides, and Erik did the same.
"What's...so...funny?" I breathed. Tears were streaming down my face and my sides hurt like I'd just ran a marathon.
"Your face...was...priceless!" he managed to wheeze. He gulped in a few mouthfuls of air. "When I walked in, all I saw was your expression." He giggled. "You looked like you had either seen a ghost or you had turned into a ghost."
He leaned forward and started wiping away the tears on my face, still laughing quietly to himself. I placed my thumbs on his cheeks so I could rub away his tears, too.
We sat there for a while, just quietly laughing and rubbing each other's tears away. We must've looked ridiculous.
At one point I stopped and looked him in the eye. We were literally inches apart, our hands framing each other's faces. I noticed how his smile was disappearing and that his eyes were much more serious then they had been before.
"Eadlyn," he breathed, moving one of his hands to the back of my neck.
"Erik?" I was so flustered. His touch wasn't helping anything.
"What are we doing?" he asked sadly.
I shrugged, not really sure what he was getting at.
"Why are we here? There can be nothing between us. I'm just a translator." He looked down at his lap. "And you're the princess, heir to the throne of Illéa."
"No!" I yelled, startling both of us. I forced his head up so he was looking at me. I felt tears gathering in my eyes at the sudden emotion coursing throughout my body.
"You are Erik," I whispered, pressing my forehead against his and squeezing my eyes shut. "And I am Eadlyn."
I opened my eyes, lifting them so they met his gaze. He stared back at me with the same passion ignited in me, except his was painted across his face.
Forcefully he pulled me into a kiss, his hands twisted tightly into my hair. Our salty tears mixed, and I tasted them against his lips.
When we broke apart I smiled and hugged his neck, nuzzling my face against his.
"You want to know something?" he asked me quietly. I could hear the happiness in his voice.
"What?" I didn't really care what he had to say, as long as we were together.
"I'm very glad I put on deodorant this morning," he said.
I leaned back as my face twisted in confusion. "Huh?"
"You said I'm better company than Kile because I smell good. That's why I'm glad I put on deodorant," he chuckled and kissed me lightly. "Because now I have you."
I giggled as he gave me kisses across my forehead, cheeks, and nose. He paused to stare into my eyes before kissing my lips one last time.
"And all I've ever wanted was you," he mumbled happily.
