Erik's POV
It was second period, and I was already ready for the day to be over. School was so stressful. Not to mention it was a stinking Monday.

So instead of listen to Mr. Arnold rant on and on about circular reasoning, I decided to let my mind wander. The first face that popped into my mind was my girlfriend's.

Eady's.

I smiled lazily, gazing out the window dreamily. My thoughts were no longer in the stuffy classroom. They were far away, in a restaurant that smelled like Italian food.

"So, you love me?" Eady asked me quietly. We were still dancing to the music, wrapped in each other's arms.

"I'm not really sure what this feeling is," I admitted with a shrug. "I just know it's more than anything I've ever felt for anybody."

Eady smiled up at me and kissed me again. I sighed contentedly before pulling away a few inches.

"Eady, I want to ask you something," I stated seriously. Eady drew her eyebrows in concern.

I swallowed nervously. "Uh, would you, maybe, like to be my...girlfriend? I know we've only been on one date and everything, and that we haven't known each other that long, but —"

Eady surprised me by wrapping her arms around my neck and squeezing me tightly. "I would love to be your girlfriend, Erik!"

Suddenly the bell rang, and my daydreaming was cut short. I quickly gathered up my books and fled the room before anyone had the chance to stop me. My next class was English, and I wasn't about to be late.

As I replaced my Science books with English books, I heard someone clear their throat behind me. I turned around and immediately saw Henri's enthusiastic smile.

"Erik!" He punched my shoulder, the way he always greeted me in between classes. "What's up, man? Where you been?"

I chuckled as I closed my locker door and started walking toward third period.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," I said, smiling.

"Oh really?" He raised his eyebrows at me. "Try me."

"Well..." I paused because I had a new message on my phone. It was from Eady.

Eady: Can't wait to see you! It feels like it's been forever💜

I felt my stomach do a flip-flop. Eady always had that affect on me.

"Hello? Earth to Erik?" Henri waved his hand in front of my face, trying to get my attention. "Who the heck just texted you?!"

I held up my phone so he could see. Squinting, he read the short message. His eyes widened and he looked up at me in shock.

"Eady!" He exclaimed. "So I take it the date went well?"

"More than well, my friend," I winked as we walked into English class. I scanned the room, and easily spotted Eady.

Except she wasn't alone like I'd imagined she'd be. She was sitting with Kile. Kile Woodwork.

I heard Henri suck in a breath behind me.

Kile was Eady's ex. They'd been super serious, until his little sister spilled the beans about how he was cheating on her. Rumor was that he still liked her. A lot.

I could feel the heat rising into my cheeks. How dare he just swoop back into Eady's life?! He was a cheating liar. He didn't deserve someone like her.

I was about to go give him a piece of my mind — or fist, whichever came first — when Henri placed his hand on my shoulder firmly. He nodded his head toward two empty seats at the back of the class, a warning look in his eyes. He knew I wanted to go beat the living daylights out of that jerk and he was trying to stop me.

I looked at Eady one last time before reluctantly following Henri to the empty seats.

Henri stopped before we sat down and hesitantly patted my shoulder. "It's gonna be okay. You'll see." He quickly turned around and sat down with a thud. I sat in the seat opposite his. Great. Kile and Eady were right in my line of vision.

I cringed when Kile leaned sideways and whispered something into her ear. I fought the boiling anger rising in my gut when she giggled back. Thankfully Miss Jenkins rushed into the room before they could interact anymore.

Throughout class I tried listening, honest. I just couldn't, not with that super hot boy flirting with my super hot girlfriend. Finally I couldn't take it anymore.

I quickly ran up to the front of the room and practically begged Miss Jenkins for a hall pass. She slowly wrote one and held it out to me. I snatched it desperately and ran out the door, away from the class of doom.
