bars

silence is all that i can hear as i sit in the cell far away from the others. no more going to the cafeteria, and certainly no more going out of this place.

there are other cells in front of mine in a row, just like a jail. i'm a criminal. i killed someone with my own two hands.

"michael, i can't believe you'd do this to your friends." the voice haunts me and i am sick of it. i can't stand it much longer. "look, you lured them in here."

at first i don't get what she's blathering about but as i look up, my eyes widen. i stand from my previous spot on the floor and walk towards the glass window.

"hey! what are you doing to them? let them go!" i shout as i bang my hands on the glass, not believing what i'm seeing.

luke is thrashing in the nurses' arms as they struggle to push him into the cell opposite mine. they put bars behind his glass and i just don't understand.

"looks like the party is just getting started, huh, michael?" she stands next to me and smirks but i continue to gape at the scene unraveling outside my cell.

they push luke into the cell rather roughly and a bit too harsh which makes my blood boil with anger. but they do the same thing with calum, dragging him into the special cases wing as he protests.

"let me go!" calum shouts, and he is way skinnier than the last time i fully saw him. the way his cheeks hollow in so deep sickens me and it seems that he weighs like a feather.

he continues to protest and the nurses and doctors around do their best at ignoring his pleads. they repeat their actions with luke on calum and he stumbles into the cell next to mine.

a random guy i don't know is screaming at the top of his lungs as several doctors manage to pull him into the cell at the end of the hall; the one without a glass.

but then my heart breaks the most when ashton is dragged into the room, his cell situated next to luke's.

he's not laughing, but crying instead. his eyes are bloodshot and his hair is a mess of curls on top of his head. one of the nurses is holding his toy kitten in her hands and he keeps trying to reach out for it, failing miserably.

"give it back to me! give my family back to me!" ashton shouts, bawling his eyes out whilst they push him into the cell. the nurse throws the toy kitten in there and a tear rolls down my cheek as i witness him falling to the ground, hugging the toy close to his chest.

ashton is shaking on the ground, his sobs loud and clear. luke is in a corner at the back of the cell with his hands tugging at the roots of his hair as he rocks back and forth on the floor.

calum yells profanities at the walls, visible tears running down his face while the unknown guy at the end of the hall continues to let out blood curdling screams.

"you're done for, michael. and now all your friends are here to turn you into one of them." she smirks and i turn to face her, the anger inside me escalating.

i scream as i lunge forward, opening my arms so i can tackle her to the floor and end her right this instant. this needs to stop.

her laugh echoes in my ears and i feel like she's inside my head. i want her out and i continue to run towards her.

but she disappears as soon as i blink and my head collides with the wall before i fall on my back, lying motionlessly on the floor.

i can't move, i can't speak, and i can't even think straight anymore. ashton is laughing, luke is screaming and calum is crying.

i'm on my own, because there's no ever after.

i have nobody else to help me, and i can't even help myself.

          i'm lonely like a castaway.
