Ashlynn awoke very early in the morning, before daylight, because of a nightmare. She kept seeing herself die over and over again. She was so shaken she couldn't get back to sleep. Every time she closed her eyes she saw the shooting or one of the guys trying to hurt her. After sitting there a few minutes she got the best idea ever, the guys are asleep she could run and they wouldn't know! Surely she could get to a town before they even noticed she was gone.
She quietly crept out of the bed and down the stairs. In the kitchen it only took her a couple minutes to find a knife and she cut the collar off, they had decided to keep it on to save trouble later, and went out the door. She followed the driveway to get out of the woods and soon came up to a main road. Staying a safe distance from the road she followed it so she wouldn't be seen if the guys went past her and she wouldn't get lost because she could still see the road.
Being October it was very beautiful walking through the forest, which is if you can forget the anxiety felt over trying to not get caught. The leaves were turning shades of crimson and the sun rising cast a pinkish glow around everything. There was a stream that ran alongside the road. The plants were more yellow closer to the water. It didn't seem very deep with the rocks sticking out sporadically throughout. It was actually quite beautiful.
After a couple miles the stream veered off to the right while the road went left, sticking to her original plan she continued to follow the road and left the beautiful scenery of the river behind.
Walking hours down the road Ashlynn began to get worried. What if they live way out in the country and she’s not even close to civilization? Or what if she has to sleep in the woods? With all the wildlife she has seen she somehow doubted it was safe to stay in the woods. There’s probably wolves or bears in the woods.
Hearing a car she crouched down by a tree. The car was coming from the way she had just been, though it was too dark to see anything she had a feeling it was one of the guys. After the car passed she got up to continue down but tripped and was brought back to the ground. Laying there in the cold leaves exhaustion overtook her and she closed her eyes to sleep.
While Ashlynn lay asleep on the forest floor the guys began sweeping the area on foot. With flashlights they searched everywhere.
“Hey guys look a footprint!” Bryce exclaimed from a distance. The guys walked over and sure enough it was a footprint. It looked as if she had veered close to the stream and got caught in the mud. Following the footprints the guys continued on. It was hard to find the prints in the dark but nonetheless they eventually found her asleep in the woods.
Cameron bent to pick her up but as soon as he touched her she woke up screaming and tried to run. She didn't make it far, Cameron had had enough and just threw her over his shoulder and started walking back home.
“Let me go!” she screamed the entire way home. Cameron just kept walking with Shayne and Bryce trailing after.
