PART FIVE: Special Delivery
As spring turned to summer things seemed to get easier for Ashlynn and Cameron. They bought a house in the spring and moved in. Ashlynn painted the walls of the nursery again. She was still on bed rest though she was allowed to get up for some things like eating and short walks. Her belly had become bigger swelling with the size of the baby. She was slightly bigger than a normal pregnancy but not by too much.
An ultrasound proved that the baby would be a girl but she had to be carefully monitored because of the double heartbeat. The nurses were worried she might have her baby before the due date in July. The baby should be able to survive if born now because it would only be a month early and everything would be developed.
June 11, 2012
Ashlynn woke up around six in the morning because her bed felt wet. She was worried at first and woke Cameron up to turn on the light on his side of the bed. As the light flicked on she felt a huge main in her lower abdomen and started to panic, her water had broken and she was having contractions!
“Cameron the baby is coming!” her excitement was cut off as she gasped in pain once again. Cameron looked shocked at first and Ashlynn pushed him out of the bed. Hitting the floor took him out of shock quickly and he helped her to the car grabbing her bag on the way out the door. He put her in the back seat and jumped in the driver’s seat trying several times before he could get the car to start with his shaky hands.
He could hear her heavy breathing and the occasional gasp as the pains came faster. Cameron tried to dial her mother but couldn't without pulling over and quickly ditched that idea throwing his phone into the passenger seat.
“Keep taking deep breaths honey, we’re almost there.” Ashlynn couldn't answer, too busy gritting her teeth to choke any words out.
Pulling into the hospital Cameron got Ashlynn quickly into the emergency room and she was immediately taken back to change into a hospital gown. They checked her vitals and hooked her up to an IV and some other medication to help get rid of the pain. Cameron took that moment to use the phone and call Ashlynn's mother. By time Ashlynn went in to actually have the baby Bryce and Ashlynn's parents were there. They had Cameron stay outside while Ashlynn and her mother went in.
It felt like hours the guys stood outside though it had only been a few minutes. Cameron was already pacing. He was so worried yet so excited he couldn't wait to hold the baby in his arms, to kiss her forehead. By time two hours passed Cameron was still pacing and getting worried. Ashlynn’s father tried to reassure him but he wouldn't see reason. Why was it taking so long?
Bryce went to get them all some coffee and they continued sitting in the hall. Cameron grew impatient more and more as he listened to the tick of the clock mounted on the wall. Every now and then he would glance at the door Ashlynn was behind hoping the doctor would come out and tell him some form of news. All of this waiting had his nerves going crazy.
Around noon a nurse came out to call Cameron in.
“The baby is about ready to come out and Ashlynn is refusing to push if you’re not in the room,” Cameron immediately went to her side to hold her hand. A half hour of pushing later the room was filled with a baby’s cry. The doctor cleaned her up and handed her to Cameron to hold.
“Congratulations it’s a girl,” Cameron looked at the beautiful baby girl in his arms. She had easily settled into his arms and fell asleep.
“Did you pick a name?” Cameron’s reply was cut off by Ashlynn yelling in pain again.
“Ashlynn what’s wrong?” she was pushing again.
“It hurts make it stop!” Ashlynn was crying but she kept pushing, the nurse went back to the end of the bed and took a look.
