"We're gonna miss you Amanda!" Vera cried and gave me a hug like I was never ever going to see her again. "You too Vera," I replied patting here back awkwardly as she held me for a couple seconds too long.
I mean, I was going to miss them..I think, but I needed to get out of there. My life was like the classic high school story that you'd see in a movie. There was a mean girl, with a posse and they wanted to take you down. Plain and simple.
I could use that as an excuse to why I'm actually changing schools, but that's not the case. My parents had gotten promotions and had to move to "better fit the schedule of work," or something like that. I didn't mind, it's just we moved a little too often, so sometimes I'm tempted to pretend to be someone at one school and someone else at the next. Why not?
My parents tried to find the bright side of things and point out that my best friend Cassandra aka Cassie, was attending my new school Westwood High too. So I agreed, because who doesn't want to go to school with their best friend?!
I see no hands, so looks like everyone agrees.
"Anne is a little slow, but sooner or later you'll get use to her dumb comments," Cassie was explaining. We were walking up to the school together and talking about the type of people I might see around. It's nice to know what I'm up against.
"Niall-,"
"Wow," I interrupted, "aren't you popular. I swear you've named the entire school,"
"Shush, I'm not done, wait until I'm finished," she scolded me. "And it's not the whole school FYI, it's barely even 5%," she corrected me and I put my hands up in a "oh my bad" kind of way.
"Anyway, he's very smart. Academics is first in his life, so if you want a study buddy or a nerd to do your homework, he's your guy. I think he was the valedictorian in his class last year,"
"Valedictorian of Junior High? I don't think that's a thing,"
"Well he made it a thing," she smiled as we opened the doors to hell. "I would say it's nice to be back, but how can I say that to a building I've never been to?" Cassie rhetorically asked. I mean, it is now been, because I didn't answer her.
"See you at lunch?" I asked when we finally passed my classroom. "Sure," she waved and headed to her's after "dropping me off."
Rinnnnnggg!
"Welcome class! I'm excited to have all these new faces here! For the first few days of class we are going to spend some time getting to know each other. My name is," she started, picking of a piece of white chalk to write with. (Yes, they still had the old-fashioned chalk board. It's terrible. All the fingernail screeching).
"Miss Regal," her handwriting was perfect and it was in cursive. I wish my handwriting was that good. "I have a little game to play called Speed Dating," she smiled and everyone's face seemed a little more intrigued.
"First, I'm going to divide the room in half," she started explaining, drawing an invisible line with her finger. "So start splitting up the tables," she ordered and everyone got up and all you could hear was the loud sound my stomach makes when I haven't eaten in a couple of hours. (Yes, food is like my love, I get upset without it).
After everyone was finally done and got back in their seats she continued to explain the dating game. "The scenario of this game is: you all are the wing woman and wing men of your best friends. Your best friends are looking for certain traits and to have similarities with this someone. It's your job to go and take down notes of the people you meet and get to know them first so you don't disappoint them. So I hope you bright something to write with and a paper. But if not," she pointed to the side of the room and there they drawers with name tags telling you what's inside.
"You'll find what you need there. Have fun, you'll have to tell us about the person you picked tomorrow and you can't talk about that person twice so make sure you have plenty of options," she ended and went to her desk looking at whatever it was on her computer.
Some people started to get up and talk to familiar faces, while I looked around the room before I got up so I won't look clueless out in the middle of the room.
"Hey, can I borrow a pencil sweetheart?" I turned around and a tall, but probably average for a male and handsome guy was standing behind me giving a charming smile.
"Um, hi, my name's Amanda,"
"Zac, but even though getting to know your name is great, I'm still without a pencil,"
"Oh I don't have one,"
"I do!" Came up a not so busty, but knew how to work it girl, in a crop top and blue jeans holding her pencil behind her ear and one held out to him. "So, my friend's looking for a special someone, but I think I'd like to do a little soul searching myself," she winked at him getting all flirty in from of me.
"Sorry, I'm in the middle of getting to know someone else, maybe next time," he said taking the pencil from her and taking my wrist, walking the other way. I know I shouldn't, but I did, I looked back and the eyes of hatred was struck at me.
Way to make friends Amanda, way to make friends.
