Ugh! I sit in silence on my purple beanbag as Garroth falls back asleep. When will we get out of here, I wonder. It has been a full day and thank goodness no one has found us. I lied to Garroth... right to his face... and I hate it! I told him we have to hide because of me, but it's because of Zenix. If anyone saw him alive, they would try to kill him! I look over in his direction and at his withered skin. It has gotten a little better, but not really... soon I will run out of potions and he will be left to nothing... I push that thought out of my mind as I climb down the ladder and step on the firm grass. I shouldn't really be seen either, but no one is going to try to kill me. I make a small hoodie out of some leather so I can walk into town without being suspected. It is pretty much the same- plain houses, gravel sidewalks, weeds cover the grass and no blacksmith or librarian. I walk down the path, but I am stopped by someone in front of me.
"I am sorry, I didn't see you-" I look up and see the lord of the village. Lord Floralili. She looks at me, but thankfully, my eyes are covered by me putting my hair in my face and the hood over my head.
"Oh, hello! I haven't seen you here before!" she exclaims.
"Well, I have lived here a while, actually..." I lie. Ugh, I hate lying!
"Oh! I am sorry, I did not know!" she sighs, "I just sort of feel... less aware of everything." I cock my head to one side.
"What happened?" I ask, regretting it right away. It is none of my business!
"It's just my son, that's all. I don't know where he is and I am getting nervous," she explains. I think for a minute. Her son is Knox... I think... she must not know that he is a Shadow Knight and that he ruined my life forever... "Well, I'd better be going back to my home. It was nice talking to- what is your name?" I hesitate.
"M-my name is... Jenna," I lie again. Uh, I hate this! She nods.
"Well, Jenna, it is nice to meet you!" she says cheerfully as she walks toward her cabin. Jenna?! Where did that come from?! I shrug and walk back toward the treehouse. I don't want to have to lie again! I climb up the ladder and look at Zenix and Garroth- both still passed out on the floor! I shouldn't complain. They deserve a rest after saving my life... well, Evangeline helped too. What did she say? Something about Garroth 'proving himself'? I don't know... I take the contract paper that Knox and Evangeline signed and I turn it to the back, where I had made tons of notes and theories on what is written. I sigh and crumple it up- wait a minute! I unfold it and... what?! Where... I hold it under the sun and I see that the words are becoming readable! How... maybe Evangeline used her magicks. I start to mumble the words to myself.
"Knox's full transformation date will be the third day after the full moon-" I stop reading. That... THAT'S TODAY!!! I continue reading, "He will kill the lord and burn down the entire village for his full transformation to be complete..." I drop the paper and jump down the ladder. I have to stop Knox! I sprint down the gravel sidewalk, the hood coming off of my head. I... have to... stop Konx- but I am too late. The lord's home has already caught fire. I can't believe this... I stand in shock as I listen to the crackling fire. I whip my head around after I hear more fire... IT IS SPREADING! I HAVE TO GET GARROTH AND ZENIX OUT OF HERE! I sprint back to the treehouse, but I slip on the gravel and land face first. I quickly get up and wipe the gravel off my face and I can feel it smear marks on my face. Once I am in the treehouse, I shake Garroth like crazy.
"GARROTH! WAKE UP! THIS WHOLE PLACE IS GOING TO BURN!" I scream.
"OH MY IRENE, WHY DIDN'T YA SAY SO?!" He shouts, throwing Zenix over his shoulder again. "Let's go!" Zenix groans as he opens his eyes.
    "W-what's going on?" he asks.
"Shut up and go back to sleep! NOTHING IS WRONG! WE ARE TOTALLY NOT IN DANGER! GOODNIGHT!" Garroth yells. Zenix's eyes grow wide.
"I... I can... walk..." he makes out.
"Don't even try," I growl at him. He moves his arms and pushes up on Garroth's back to try to escape his grasp.
"For Irene's sake, Zenix." Garroth growls. He takes Zenix off his shoulder and sets him on the ground and kneels down. "Either you shut up and go back to sleep the easy way or the hard way. Got it?" Zenix's only response is a sneeze as he falls down and hits his head on the ground. Garroth sighs and heaves him back on his shoulder.
"We are going to have to run," I say as I see the fire is spreading to the trees. This is bad... "Zenix, just be the weak one for now and not try to do something you can't physically do. For Irene's sake, you can't even stand without falling over!" I start to run and I am surprised to see that Garroth can catch up to me with Zenix still on his shoulder. "How are you running so fast with him on your shoulder?!" I ask with surprise.
He flashes me a half smile. "In guard training, we had to sprint as long as we could with our mentor, who is twice my size, on our backs, and be able to carry out a whole conversation with him at the same time." I laugh.
"W-will I have... to do that?" Zenix murmurs softly.
"No, you aren't unlucky enough to go to the academy. It. Was. Torture. I will not train you that way. The hardest thing you'll have to do is climb a hill in two minutes with me on your back. Not that hard," Garroth explains. Zenix closes his eyes slowly and groans again.
"How far do you think we will have to run before we have to stop?" I ask Garroth. I am almost out of breath already! It doesn't help that I have the hole in my chest either...
"Well, it might not be smart to stop yet, since we are only a few miles from the village, so in a hour or so? But if you need to, we can stop for a second and you can hop on while you catch your breath." I contain my laugh.
"You mean... on your back? YOU CAN CARRY BOTH OF US?!"
"Obviously, you have never met Master Fenier. You two combined are only like a fourth of his weight. It would be easy!" I stare at him in shock, but I quickly turn my head back to see where I am running.
"I... I should be fine..." I manage to peep. I go back to heavy breathing and now I am trying to catch up to Garroth.
"Mmhmm..." He stops and turns around. "Hop on, bad liar." I sigh.
"You have no idea," I mumble, "But, seriously, I am fine-" I begin, but I take a deep breath and get on his back. I can't lie anymore... He starts running again and I lay my head on his shoulder. "Thanks. I'll get off once I catch my breath."
"Oh, you're fine! I can barely tell you're on! Zenix though, he isn't asleep... BUT HE KEEPS DROOLING ON MY SHOULDER!" I laugh as I look at Zenix.
"M-maybe... am I being chased again? Just tell them that I did ki-" I cover his mouth before he can say anymore. HE THINKS WE ARE BEING CHASED BY THE ANGRY RIOT THAT CHASED HIM OUT OF GOD GRAVE! Oh, Irene no! He was about to say he killed me. I don't even care that he is drooling in my hand, he can't say anymore!
"Oh, you think I don't know about the riot? It's kinda obvious when you have the 'gossip girls' in your village that it's impossible to NOT know. But I don't know all of it. Nor do I want to. So uncover his mouth and I'll just zone out if you two want to have some sort of 'conversation." Garroth says. I sigh and uncover his mouth. I wipe the drool on the hoodie and Zenix continues talking.
"W-why are... did you tell them or not? I-It's fine... just tell them the truth so they don't... kill Garroth or something..." I gasp and think about covering his mouth again. ZENIX, SHUT UP!!!
"Zenix, just stop talking, it's fine, no one is chasing us," I explain. He closes his eyes again and I sigh with relief. Please be asleep... I have no more healing potions, which worries me a ton! I look up at the stars and pray to Irene that Zenix will live another day...
