Chapter 22 - Garroth

"Okay, so here's my plan," Zella explains to me. It's almost midnight and Zenix is already asleep. Statistics training was good, Zenix wasn't too bad using his new iron sword that I got him. Hey, what can I say? He's like my son! "We need to kill her, tonight. She probably will come again tonight, so we just have to sneak attack before she gets in Zenix's head." I nod my head. We head into the undergrowth, lying in wait.
A few minutes later, I hear loud rustling. And there is the culprit- a young girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, a sapphire sword in her hand. She goes near the guard tower and she starts to climb it. I motion to Zella to follow me. "Go inside, incase she gets inside before I catch her."
"Okay..." she says, shaking like crazy. Zella quietly runs to the entrance and enters the guard tower. The 'Evangeline' girl is making her way up fast. I silently sprint to the opposite side of the guard tower and start to quickly climb, gaining on her. She still hasn't noticed me yet, but she is almost to the window. I climb even faster, almost to her, when she reaches the window. Mother of Irene... I jump up the rest of the way and grab the windowsill. I pull myself up and tackle her. She screams and falls to the floor from my weight.
"UHH! GET OFF ME!!!" she shouts, but then she looks into my eyes and gives me a deadly glare. "YOU! YOU SELFISH JERK!!!" She takes her sword and tries to stab me, so I jump off of her. She is way more angry than she is tall... "You ruined everything for me when you betrayed the village! Now I will ruin everything that is yours." She takes a step forward and swings the sword at me, but I easily deflect it. I take a step toward her, raising my sword calmly.
"Look, I have no idea who you are or what you want, but you don't get to come in here and give my apprentice nightmares. Wait, how do you know I abandoned my village? Where are you from?"
"Oh, come on, Garroth! Do you think the word wouldn't spread about the eldest son of the Lord of Okasis' death?! And please, just shut your sweet little mouth and apologize to me for RUINING MY FREAKING LIFE!!! YOU JERK! YOU LEFT US ALL TO THE WRATH OF YOUR BLOOD THIRSTY FATHER!!!" She shouts at me in anger.
"Okay, hold up. How many people know about my 'death' being fake? D-does my father know?" I swallow nervously. She swings the sword at me again, and I deflect it again.
"How in the name of Irene am I supposed to know if your cruel father knows?! I just have... connections, and that's how I know. I can't believe you can't see the big picture, Garroth! Your pretty face is so darn lucky I haven't told anyone! You could be hanged or sent out of this side of the world forever! And you don't care! You just walk around like your life is not on the-"
"Look, why do you think I faked my death? Huh? I DID IT SO I CAN STOP MY FATHER'S TYRANNY!!!!! IF I STAYED, HE WOULD HAVE FORCED ME TO MARRY THE LORD OF SCALESWIND'S DAUGHTER TO FULFILL THE TREATY!!! HE WOULD HAVE THEN KILLED THE GIRL AND HER FATHER AND MAKE IT LOOK LIKE AN ACCIDENT, AND SO I WAS LEFT TO RULE BOTH!!! HE WOULD BLACKMAIL ME INTO DOING WHAT HE WANTED!!! I DON'T WANT INNOCENT PEOPLE TO DIE!!!" I shout. "I did it so the region wouldn't become a monarchy. He would've had me killed if I did something wrong... I want to protect my mother from Zane and Father's anger."
"Oh, I'm sorry big baby! We all have deaths! You think I could have done something to save my six sisters?! Faking your death did NOTHING! HA! IT MADE THINGS WORSE! SCALESWIND AND OKASIS ARE IN MORE QUARRELS THAN EVER! I HAD TO LEAVE THERE TO PROTECT MYSELF! AND I AM SURE YOU ARE LYING, YOU SELFISH JERK!" she thrusts the sword forward hard and I swing my sword back, even harder, like a baseball bat, and that thrust her sword back, doing nothing for her.
"WHY WOULD I FAKE MY DEATH FOR MY OWN SAFETY!?!?! I AM DOING THIS SO I CAN GO TO OKASIS AND... and... a-assassinate my-my father. To end his tyranny. To save my people and the people of Scaleswind from him. Zane can't become Lord, he took on the roll of High Priest. I know he wants it, but I won't let him. If-if I can't stop him, I-I'll kill him, too. For my people, NOT MYSELF!!! I AM NOT A SELFISH JERK!!! YOU'RE THE ONE WHO LEFT FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY, COWARD!!! I AM NOT ONE!!! I DID THIS SO NO ONE WOULD SUSPECT I'M ALIVE, SO DON'T BE AN IMBECILE AND BLAME YOUR COWARDICE ON ME!!! AND I DON'T TERRORIZE CHILDREN'S DREAMS!!! YOU DO!!!" I shout even louder.
"Wow, pretty boy. You should really save that for when you are talking to someone who cares." she snorts. I see her gaze move toward... Zella. She has been listening the whole time. "What about her?" she points at Zenix. "What about him, huh?! You can't take them with you! And what do you think she thinks now?! Huh?!" I stare at Zella, who's only facial expression is pure fear. "You can't have everything, Garroth! I certainly couldn't! I found love and they didn't notice me, they didn't even care about me!" She stares deeply into my eyes. "You are so cute, I want to slap your stupid face..." she murmurs. "And do you really care about two fourteen-year-olds?! You even said that you were going to assassinate your father to save your PEOPLE! You-" But she is cut off, and she screams and falls to the floor. Zella stabbed her with Zenix's iron sword. Wow. I really hate girls... I look at Zella, she is staring at Evangeline with anger... and horror. Evangeline laughs creepily. "Wow, nice job, Zella! I guess you are used to being stabbed in the chest!" Zella holds the sword closer to Evangeline's throat.
"Shut it." Zella growls. Evangeline takes her hand and moves it slowly over her chest. Wait... she is healing herself! She stands up and dusts herself off. She smiles.
"Well, I guess this is the cue..." she begins. Zella suddenly screams and I see a boy with red eyes grabbing onto her shirt. He pulls her and Zella tries to kick him.
"LET GO OF ME, KNOX!!!" she screeches, but Knox has already jumped out the window with her. Evangeline gives me one last wink before she jumps out herself. I look over at Zenix's bed to see it... EMPTY?! Where did he go?! I look out the window again and I see him chasing after Knox. I jump out the window and do a barrel roll, and sprint after him.
"LET GO OF HER!!!" Zenix yells. Jeez, we are going to wake up the whole village... oh no... AZURA'S GONNA KILL ME!! First faking my death, then ditching her in the middle of the night... awkward... But I am definitely NOT going back. If I do, she'll kill me for being a coward... ugh, women... As I'm sprinting, I catch sight of Zenix running ahead of me, chasing after the shadow knights with Zella in tow.
"HURRY! THEY WILL CATCH UP!" Knox yells at Evangeline and she nods her head.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! LET GO OF ME!!!" Zella screams. Evangeline starts moving her hand and purple sparks fly out. A nether portal appears in front of them and the shadow knight boy runs through with Zella. Evangeline stops and waves her hand some more and she makes a dirt barrier before she enters herself and closes the portal. Zenix runs up to the wall and bangs on it, breaking it. I hear him mumbling a few curses. Finally, catching up, I walk over to where the nether portal was. I bend down and look at the ground, the grass was untouched... HOW? I look at Zenix, guilt washing over me. How... HOW COULD I LET THIS HAPPEN?!?!?! I JUST STOOD THERE AND WATCHED, LIKE A DUMBFOUNDED IDIOT!! THE NETHER, GARROTH? YOU IDIOT!!!!! SHE WAS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!! YOU PROMISED NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN TO HER!!! YOU'RE A FAILURE!!
"I... I have to... I have to go get her..." I hear Zenix mumble. But I know one thing for sure- Zenix must NOT go to the Nether.
