I am washing the dishes, with my clothes soaked. Zenix is chopping wood outside, so I keep the door open so I can see him. He is covered in sweat and wood chips. Occasionally he will look over at me and I will flash him a smile, and he will smile a little shy smile. The door slams shut from the wind and I go over to the door to open it. But Zenix beats me too the door and I slip on the water on the floor that I mopped earlier and I land in his arms.
"Um, sorry, Zenix... I just... slipped on some water." I explain shyly. He laughs.
"It's alright," he responds and helps me back to my feet. I smile widely. This is the first time that I have heard him laugh since the day we became closer than friends. I go back to washing dishes, when Zenix's father... my father walks up to me.
"Uh, what happened there, young lady?" he asks sternly. I for the first time notice that his is a few feet taller than me, which makes me feel even smaller.
"Well, the door shut, so I went to open it again and..."
"Why does the door have to be open?" he demands. I shutter.
"For fresh air," I lie. All I want to do is to be able to see Zenix and make sure he is still okay.
"I think the air is fresh enough in here," he scowls and slams the door, which makes me jump. Zenix must have thought it was the wind again, because he opened it again. Father turns to face him.
"What do you think you are doing? I shut this door for a reason!" he yells at Zenix and slams the door on his face. I gasp. Zenix... something seemed off...
"Slamming a door isn't that terrible," Father grumbles and he walks into his room. But I am not scared of a door slamming. It was Zenix... his eyes! They had a red tint! No, it is just my imagination. He is not a guard, he can't be... no, no way! I continue scrubbing dishes and block that thought out of my mind, but it is very hard. It looked like red, and he had a right to be mad, but he wouldn't be able to hide a secret like that from me. No way! I sigh and bang my head on the counter. He can't be...

It is very late and I haven't finished mopping the floor yet, but everyone is asleep except me. Even Zenix is sound asleep. I lean the mop against the wall and head over to my room, when I feel choked.
"What are you doing?!" Father yells at me. I look at him and I realize my feet are not touching the floor. He is holding me up by my shirt. "You are not done with your chore!"
"But it is past midnight!" I protest, but that just makes him choke me harder.
"Do you think I care?!" he shouts with anger in my ear. Father lifts me higher, then he slams me onto the ground with all of his might. I... can't feel my legs... I look up and see a shadow in my doorway. Zenix saw every bit of that.
