The night air was filled with a woman screaming of childbirth. Her name was Prunaprisma. Miraz's wife gives one last scream and is given her child. At that moment, Glozelle is off to tell Lord Miraz the greatest news. The general found Miraz looking out a window and spoke.
"Lord Miraz, you have a son."
"The heavens have blessed us. ...You know your orders, General Glozelle," said Miraz.
"Yes, my lord."
While the General leaves Miraz, a Telmarine soldier paces the hallway past both young boys' rooms, except for one, the youngest, Killian. You see, Killian was born with magic, even though he wasn't born in Narnia. But when he first experienced magic, he was at the age of five years old. The young prince had thrown a tantrum over riding his favorite pony, Smee, which consisted of a hurricane, earthquake, strong winds, and fires blowing up everywhere. But the worst of all was when his parents looked at him. His eyes were a dark yellow, his face was pale white, his cheekbones were defined, but underneath his eyes were dark shadows like he had never slept. He would talk in tongues, and two different colors of magic would come out of his hands. They would always have to lock him away in his room so he wouldn't hurt anyone. But what I'm saying is the youngest prince had escaped two weeks ago because he had been taunting his uncle too many times. But yes, the youngest did escape from the castle. He has excelled in his magic, so he can leave undetected.
But a cloaked figure had snuck into the eldest room without the guard present. The strange figure went up to the Prince's bed and pulled the drapes away. When he put his hand over Caspian's mouth, he was awoken, startled from his slumber. He looked up to see it was Doctor Cornelius. So that made Caspian relax and try to fall back to sleep.
"Five more minutes."
"You won't be watching the stars tonight, my prince. Come, we must hurry."
As Doctor Cornelius finished speaking, he pulled Caspian out of his bed and to a wardrobe in the corner of the room. Caspian was confused. He wondered where Kili was, so he asked.
"Professor, what is going on? Where's Killian?"
"Your aunt has given birth...to a son. And your brother. Don't worry about your brother now; he will be fine. He's safe."
And with that, Doctor Cornelius steps into the wardrobe, and Caspian follows. He leaves the door open a crack and looks out. Glozelle and his men surround Caspian's bed, and they had ceased; they had noticed the bed was empty.
"Check the other rooms; make sure he's there," ordered Glozelle.
Caspian looks back to Doctor Cornelius, and they both race down a winding stairway. Caspian finds a sword and gets on his horse, Destrier. But he noticed his brother's horse, Smee, was already gone.
"You must make for the woods."
"The woods? But where's Killian?"
"Don't worry about Killian now. They won't follow you there."
Cornelius hands a wrapped object and a letter written out for Caspian.
"It has taken me many years to find it.
Do not use it except at your greatest need. Do not read the letter until you get to safety. They are instructions from your brother Killian."
"Will I ever see you again?" asked Caspian.
"I hope so, my dear prince. But if you ever see your brother out there, greet him. There is so much I meant to tell you about your brother. Everything is about to change," exclaimed the Professor.
They had heard something in the distance, but they didn't know what.
"Now go!" yelled Cornelius.
Caspian rides away as the Professor looks on. Caspian rides through the courtyard and knocks over a soldier. He crosses the bridge, jumping at the sound of fireworks.
Then Telmarine soldiers on horseback pursue Caspian. So he makes Destir ride faster, not knowing what was beyond the woods he was about to enter. While Glozelle enters, many of the soldiers stay back and are hesitant to go in. So the General turns and rides back to them and yells.
"Which of you superstitious old women would like to spend the night in a cell?"
So they decided not to be thrown in a cell and enter the woods. While Caspian safely crossed the river, the soldiers were crossing, and one was simply washed away. Caspian looks back; he sees that there are no soldiers coming after him. But when he looks forward again, he sees a branch—too late.
Wham!
Caspian was knocked off his horse and was now being dragged. After a bit of struggling, he managed to get his foot off the stirrup. While Caspian lay there for a while, he managed to sit up and take in his surroundings. Suddenly, a door in a tree on his right opened. Two dwarfs and a cloaked figure stepped out and noticed Caspian.
"He's seen us!" exclaimed Nikabrik.
Trumpkin drew his sword and ran towards Caspian. Then, seeing the horn with the letter, he stopped. Trumpkin looked over and saw Telmarine soldiers approaching. He looked at the cloaked figure and pointed his sword at him.
"Take care of him! And don't disappoint me!" he said.
And with that, Trumpkin rushed towards the Telmarines with his sword drawn. Caspian grabs the horn...
"No!" Nikabrik yells.
...and blows the horn. The cloaked figure steps forward and threw something into Caspian's face. And the whole world went dark....
.....
Hey guys, wondering what his brother wrote for him? Wondering who that mysterious cloaked figure is? Well, you're going to have to wait for the next chapter and see for yourself.
