Things never go wrong at the moment you expect them to. When you're completely relaxed, oblivious to any potential dangers, that's when bad things happen. - C.K. Kelly Martin, I Know It's Over
A Month Later...
Imer...
"Wrong way! Time out!" A couple of guys and I scream! Mike, Carl, Jean, Zeus, Ramel and myself are playing football in the field of my backyard. It's three on three and of course I get stuck with Carl as a teammate. This nigga is trying to play high, knowing damn well he can't function like that. And nobody else was going to pick him, so I gave him a fair chance. I guess this what I get for being nice.
"That's game bitches!" Zeus says in a fit of laughter. I shake my head, making way to the table where the water bottles are. Niara hands me my personal bottle, smiling down at Raine as she sat in her lap.
Niara and I became real close this summer, like best friends close. She's really down to earth and chill. I usually find crazy Island girls, but Niara seems to be different. I mean I don't know what her bad side is like, I'm hoping I don't get a chance to see it. But then again if some one were too rub her the wrong way, things can get ugly.
"Y'all got that ass whooped!" Ramel teases. I flag him off.
"If Carl's high ass would of remembered where the hell our goal was, y'all wouldn't of won. That nigga high as a kite." I scoff shaking my head.
"I'm not fucking high. I'm tired nigga. This working over time shit is killing my ass." He groans.
"Um, can y'all stop cursing in front of the baby." Niara whines as Raine babbles.
"They better stop cussing in front my wittle snookums." My mom coos, coming out the blue. Raine starts giggling uncontrollably with wild legs and arms causing us all to laugh.
"Hi's you missed auntie." She coos kissing her cheek as she walked towards the house.
"Hey Mrs. Gomez." Mike, Jean and Carl wave in unison.
"Hey boys." My mom waves back, still staying forward.
"When you gone let me-" I cut Mike off by sending a blow to his chest. He coughs falling back as everyone bursts into laughter. Nigga always on some disrespectful shit.
"Thanks son!" My pops calls from his balcony with a cigar between his fingers. I nod, taking a sip of my drink.
"Bricks take your satellite hearing behind back in the house! And what I tell you about smoking those stink behind cigars in my house! I swear you 'bout hardheaded as your damn kids!"
"I do what I want! I'm daddy and you're not!" My dad says in a teasing tone. I shake my head laughing as Zeus and Ramel fall out.
"Yo your pop funny as shit." Jean laughs holding his chest.
"His parents are goals though. I want a relationship like them honestly." Carl says.
"Forreal. But you try playing with women these days, they'll pull a knife out on your ass." Zeus says. I nod dapping him in agreement.
"But shit we a crazy ass bunch ourselves, that's probably why we attract them." I shrug, sitting beside Niara on the bench. I lean forward, running my hands over my head.
"What happen to Mike?" Niara questions. We all look around confused, scratching our heads. This nigga was just here, coughing up a storm and shit.
"There he go!" Zeus screams. I look in the direction of this nigga running toward the house. He really think he slick, but I bet my dad is already downstairs.
