The [fake] snake bashing is a big deal for the freshman; it's sort of their job to drive the snakes off campus with their giant shillelaghs. The Snake Invasion happens the week before the big events; it's sort of the pre-game to the games during the official week of celebration. - BRIAN HICKMAN
The Next Day...
India...
I cut up the last of the fruits, putting them in the fruit salad. I'm preparing it for PopPop's kickback. He said everyone must bring a dish, if you don't that ass is not stepping foot in his backyard. He doesn't care if you're family or not.
After cutting up the kiwis and sour apples, I sprinkle some sugar and pour some South Carolina Peach Tea Vodka over top of it. I cover it over with foil while putting it in the fridge to keep cool. I know my baby Yoko can't have the alcohol so I made her a special batch to eat. She loves my fruit salads.
I hear the door open, seeing my parents walk in, Kane and Farad following right after helping with the grocery bags. I wipe the counter down so my mom and dad can start their cooking. I know their about to throw down in the kitchen.
"You made the fruit salad?" My father questions. I laugh and nod. He's another one that likes my fruit salads. Mostly because it's sweet and that Vodka just gives it that kick it needs.
"You making the potato salad mommy?" I question.
"Yep, and your father is making a Spanish dish called Paella."
"What's that daddy?" I question.
"Seafood Paella. It's piled with fresh shelled shrimp, mussels, squid, rice, spices, and vegetables. It's real good. My pops taught me how to prepare it." He shrugs. I nod in understanding.
"You made one without the squid right? I don't eat that shit." My mom informs. I couldn't help but laugh. If my mom never sees it swimming, she's not eating it.
"No. I always make it with squid." He laughs.
"What? Not uh! The last time you made it you had chicken in it." She whines. My dad laughs, shaking his head no.
"I always put squid in it baby. When it's fried, it tastes like chicken. See you been eating it for years and ain't even know it." My pops chuckles. My mom's jaw drop as I laugh, shaking my head. That's why I always question what's in anything before eating it. Especially since I'm allergic to certain seasonings. I look at the clock seeing it's 1:15 and time to get ready. The kickback starts at three and I take at least an hour to get ready.
I enter my room, about to close the door but someone stops it. I turn and laugh at Kane, but his face read seriousness. I furrow my eyebrows as he closes the door, turning toward me.
"Whats wrong?" I question. Kane sighs, shaking his head.
"Farad seems off to me." He informs. I knit my brows, sitting beside him.
"Why you say that?" I question.
"I don't like he's just acting weird. When his phone rang or he gets a text, he keeps looking at me and talking in code." I look at him in concern as he sighs and stands to his feet.
"I didn't say anything, but I think I need to say something." He mumbles.
"About what Kane what's going on?" I question in concern. He sighs, licking his lips.
"After we came back from the club, I went to the lower level of the crib to get my clothes for the morning drive. As I was in my room, I heard keys chime, and disturbing laughter in the hall but I knew it was Farad. I knew that spooky ass laugh anywhere." Kane leans up against the door, running his hands down his face before continuing.
