She wakes up to the sound of someone talking. She slowly opens her eyes to find her mom sitting in a chair in the corner on the phone. She sits up and her mom looks over at her.
'Yeah, I'm sorry, I have to go. Ok, bye.' her mom says and hangs up the phone.
'How are you feeling?' she asks, walking over to the bed.
'Tired.' she says, letting out a huge breath.
'The doctor says you can go home today.'
'Really?'
'Yeah, you can stay home from school tomorrow, but you have to try to go back the next day.' She sighs and lets her head fall back onto the pillow again.
'I just hate it. Can't we just move and start all over?'
'That's not how it works unfortunately.' her mom says.
'When are we going home?'
'In a couple hours. That is, if you feel well enough to go back home.'
'I do. I want to go home.'
A couple hours later and she's staring out the car window, watching all the other cars roll by, watching the trees and background being whisked away. She thinks of nothing in particular, just little thoughts here and there.
Her sister waits on the front step to the front door of their house, sitting and watching the road, waiting for her sister to finally pull into the driveway with her mom. When she finally sees her, she jumps up to go say hi. She hasn't seen her big sister in 3 days. She wasn't allowed to go visit and she had to be watched by a babysitter, which ripped her heart out, not being able to sleep all that time, constantly worrying about her sister.
She pulls Lizzy into a hug, and carries her into the house.
'Guess what?' Lizzy says.
'What?' her older sister replies when they both arrive in the house.
'I made you something.'
'You did? What is it?' she asks curiously as her sister guides her into the kitchen where a huge cake sat. It had little frosting decorations (made by Lizzy) and messy frosting letters spelling out "Welcome home!'
'Miss Gina helped me make it, but I decorated it all by myself.' she says proudly.
'I love it! Thank you.' she says, pulling her little sister into another large hug.
And for once, she felt loved.
She didn't actually have a bad day. She didn't try to look at what everyone was saying. She didn't want to, for once.
She got to know her sister more, catch up with everything that's been happening. She feels as if she hasn't talked to her sister in months, probably because she hasn't. Not really anyway.
She just blocked everyone out and she hated it.
She just wished she didn't feel like that.
