Chapter 3: Tori's first job

Daisuke POV

It was the day after the tornado. I was standing in front of the request board with Yuri. When Yuri looked at one of the job requests she looked disoriented before stumbling backwards. Thankfully Gray caught her. When I looked at Yuri's face I had to hold in a gasp. Yuri's eyes were yellow again. "You okay?" Gray asked her then she shook her head and her eyes went back to dark blue.
"I'm fine now, thanks for catching me"
"No problem" He stood her up and continued to his table. She picked up the request that she was looking at before she fell.
"Hey Daisuke? Can we do this one?"
"I don't think that's such a good idea, it sounds dangerous"
"You think I can't handle a little danger?"
"I'm not saying that Yuri, fine. We'll go on this quest..."
"Yay!" She went to the bar and I stared after her. But I'll be keeping a very close eye on you. I went to Gray and Juvia.
"Do you two want to go on a job with me and Yuri? We'll split the reward and I'll need help observing her"
"Sure, it's boring in here anyway"
"I'll go anywhere as long as Gray-sama's with me!"
"Yeah, I figured that" Someone tapped me on the shoulder and I turned to see Yuri.
"She said that you better protect me or she'll be after you"
"I don't need her to tell me that. I was already going to protect you. Gray and Juvia are coming with us, that okay?"
"Sure! The more the merrier!" We first went to the client's house which was in Magnolia. The client was a teenage girl with blonde hair and green eyes.
"I'm so happy someone came! I need the horn of a horned sea serpent to surprise my dad. He needs one and can't find them anywhere so I want to help him"
"Where does this horned sea serpent live?"
"Someone saw one at the lake near Fairy hills. They're active late at night and a female has to call it to the surface. They're mostly males"
"Anything else?"
"Oh! You shouldn't attack it. That makes them very angry and uncooperative. If it thinks the girl is worthy it will give her its horn"
"Well, we'll do our best to retrieve the horn for you" we left her house.
"So we have some time to kill before we can start the job"
"Seems that way Daisuke"
"Let's go get some sleep so we're wide awake for the job"
"That is a good idea Gray-sama"
"We'll meet by Fairy hills at 11pm"

(Time skip, 11pm)

Yuri POV

We were standing on the lakeshore waiting to see if one would surface by itself. It didn't. "Typical...Juvia can you try calling it?"
"Anything for you Gray-sama!" She went to the shoreline and said its name repeatedly but nothing was happening. "Sorry Juvia couldn't get it to come"
"It's not your fault, maybe it didn't hear you. But we should let Yuri have a turn"
"I'll try my best..." Next I went to the shoreline. "Um...hello? Mr. Horned sea serpent? Are you down there? If you are please come up" I waited but still nothing happened. I turned to face the others. "Sorry guys" Then a gurgling roar could be heard. "Maybe I'm not sorry?" I turned back towards the water and the blue creature with three horns broke through the surface. "It worked! I did it!"
"Yeah but now what? She said we shouldn't attack it" The sea serpent roared before dragging me underwater. I heard everyone shout my name before I was brought under. It wrapped its body around me. I tried to squirm free but the sea serpent tightened its grip making escape impossible as it watched me intently. Maybe I have to show that I'm not afraid of it. Worth a try. I stopped struggling and stared back at the creature just as intently. This went on for three minutes until my mouth reflexively opened to breathe. I began choking on all the water entering my lungs but I held my ground. I didn't try to escape as my chest started to ache in extreme pain. My vision faded, I felt the sea serpent move. Something was put on top of my chest and then I was moved and faintly heard my friends' voices, plus boyfriend before I passed out.

I woke up coughing violently, I was coughing out water. When my body was sure the water was all gone I gasped for air and took long deep breaths. "Yuri!" My vision slowly returned and I saw Daisuke next to my right and Gray and Juvia next to my left. By Daisuke was one of the sea serpent's horns.
"I got the horn..." A faint smile appeared on my lips. I still felt slightly weak.
"You think this is funny?! You could have died!" I managed to stand up.
"So you're saying I asked to be dragged underwater and nearly drown to death?"
"Yuri..." He moved to touch me but I stumbled away from him.
"No, apparently you think I'd very much like to die even though I'm loving life right now. You think I want to leave you even though I love you"
"I didn't mean that..."
"Then you should have thought before you spoke" I ran away as fast as my legs would carry me, tears stinging my eyes. Is my love not strong enough for you to see that I would never leave you? I somehow ended up getting frustrated with myself. I tripped over a tree root and hit my head against a tree trunk hard. My vision shifted in and out of focus and when I tried to stand I couldn't hold myself up and fell again. At least I made it to a forest. Before I passed out I swear I saw pink and blue.

I woke up to see the sky a dark blue colour, like my eyes. I realised I wasn't in a bed. "What...?" I tried getting up but a massive pain in my head stopped me from doing so. The thing I was on swung when I moved. Why am I in a hammock? And who's hammock is this? I tried getting up again but this time I fell out of the hammock. An ice pack fell with me. "Ouch..." I couldn't move so I had to lie on the floor until a door opened. I opened my eyes to see Natsu and Happy. The blue and pink must have been them!
"Yuri?! What are you doing out of bed?!"
"I...fell..." He picked me up and put me back in his hammock.
"I'll get you another ice pack" He went to a cooler and brought out a fresh ice pack. Then he put it on my head, when he did it brought me pain and I winced. "Sorry but it will make the bump swell down. That's what Lucy told me. I had Gray make some ice packs and bring them over here"
"What...happened...?" My memory was a bit hazy in places.
"I found you unconscious in front of a tree. You've been unconscious for nearly two whole days"
"I tripped...and banged...my head...against a...tree hard..."
"What were you doing going into the forest anyway?"
"I was running...upset because of...him, Daisuke. Nature comforts me..." My vision was blurring.
"Those sentences were all on different topics"
"I'm scrambled..."
"That makes no sense"
"I think she means her brain is scrambled"
"Correct...Happy...prize..." I couldn't think properly to put together proper sentences. "Sleep...run..."
"All I got from that is that you want sleep"
"Exactly..." I fainted.

This time I when I woke up Happy was there but not Natsu and it was a bright blue sky. "Where Natsu?" Now I just couldn't be bothered. If you wanna be stupid brain, fine by me. At least I can kind of piece together proper sentences.
"He went to the guild to give everyone an update on your health"
"Okey dokey"
"How are you feeling?"
"Weird stupid and"
"Weird and stupid? That bonk to the head must have really messed you up"
"Are you right" Oy vey, now I'm taking backwards...
"I can't tell if you're actually asking a question"
"Backwards spoke I"
"Oh, you're talking backwards! Yeah you're messed up" Then I heard footsteps and a black wolf burst through the door.
"Yuri!" He grabbed me and flew past the wolf but to our dismay the wolf bit my leg to stop Happy from flying away. The more Happy tried to fly the harder the wolf bit me.
"Stop please! Me hurts it!"
"Not the best time to be messed up"
"Go let!"
"But-"
"Please!" He listened and let go of me and I fell. The wolf let me go. I now had deep tooth marks on my right leg that blood was flowing from. "Help get Happy!"
"O-okay!" He sped away from the scene. I couldn't run because of my leg and if I tried to fly away it would probably do the same thing to my other leg. It grabbed my arm with its paws and threw me into a tree headfirst hard. My vision faded, the last thing I saw was the wolf's yellow eyes.
