Jerome's POV

He looked around the entire room before his eyes finally stopped on me.

And for a split second, for one tiny moment, I didn't recognize the person in front of me.

I didn't see, Mitchell Hughes.

I saw someone -or something- else.

His face was blank, and was his body language but his eyes pleaded for help.

I stared into his eyes, he did the same.

When I finally couldn't bear it anymore I walked over to the side of the bed and hugged him.

He automatically threw his arms around neck, clinging to me tightly.

As much as I hate to admit it, I'm growing a soft spot for him.

But I wouldn't dare show it around others-anymore.

Mitch left out a soft sob and I hugged him tighter, rocking him a bit.

I whispered sweet nothings in his ear to calm him down and it eventually worked, and he unhooked himself from my neck.

I carefully laid down on the bed beside him, taking the time to inhale his scent every now and then.

Mitch had flattened himself against the headstand and was sitting with his legs crossed.

His eyes were still purple, but more of a brownish-purplish color now.

He didn't look grounded enough to speak so I took his hand in mine,

playing with his fingers, and drawing little designs on his palm with my fingers.

This alone didn't seem to be enough to rid him of whatever terrible thoughts and voices where in his head, because their was still the tiniest glint of fear in his eyes.

So I began to whistle the harmony softly, then began with the first verse.
(a/n Jerome can sing (good) in the book)

"Well they thought they were made for each other,
only thinking of one another;

never thinking just for a second,
he would take a different attraction;"

Mitch's expression seemed to soften, so I took that as a good sign and continued to the chorus,

"we don't want that,
we don't want that,
we don't want that, oh no;

we don't want that,
we don't want that,
we don't want that, oh no;"

As I sang I watched Mitch, looking for any sign to stop. But his face went blank, with absolutely no emotion.

"I can't go on without you,
I can't go on without you;

can't go on without you, wooh yeah;
I can't go on without you;"

At this point, a single tear ran down his cheek, but his expression was still blank. He was restraining himself.

I wiped his tear away with my thumb,
then gently caressed the side of his head with the same hand before retreating back to fiddle with his fingers.

"and so, what's the point of breaking my sweet heart;

but you wanted me, to let down, my guard;"

"well, you know what they say;

it's better that way, so you better hush and walk away;"

Halfway threw the verse, Mitch uncrossed his legs and turned his head towards me.

Pain and sorrow reflected in his eyes,
and another tear ran down his cheek but he turned away before I could wipe it away.

"we don't want that,
we don't want that,
we don't want that, oh no;

we don't want that,
we don't want that,
we don't want that, oh no;"

"I can't go on without you,
I can't go on without you, oh no;

can't go on without you, wooh;
I can't go on, won't go on, living on without you;"

Something must have triggered him,
because at this point tears were rolling down both cheeks,

and I could tell he was trying to keep it all in.

I stopped singing and sat up, scooting towards him a bit.

He cried silently, an occasion hiccup or restrained sob every now and then but that only made it worse.

The sight made my stomach churn.

I pulled Mitch into me and he didn't resist. He wrapped his legs around my waist so he was facing me and hugged me tightly.

"It's okay Mitch.
No ones here to hurt you.
Your safe. I'm not leaving.
I'm never leaving.
I'll always be here."

I continued whispering into his ear and he eventually stopped crying.

I patted his back softly, rocking him back and forth a bit in the process as well.

A soft snore escaped from him and I chuckled lightly.

I picked him up by the thighs and lifted him off of the bed, carrying him towards my room.

I new that he'd be scared if he woke up by himself again so I laid him down on my bed and then proceeded to lay down beside him, pulling the sheets over top of us as well.

I brushed a few strands off of his face before kissing his forehead,
"Goodnight Mitch."
