I convinced the hospital to let me see my mother one last time so I could say my goodbyes.
"Hey, mom. I'm sorry I didn't save you... I wish I would've been more help.. I love you." I said as I kissed her forehead.
"It's gonna be okay." Caden said from the doorway.
"Shut your fucking mouth, Caden. You're not the one who has to go into foster care at sixteen."
"Maybe you won't have to. Maybe I can get social services to let you stay with me."
"There's no way you can get that to happen and you know it, so shut up and don't try and tell me that its gonna be okay."
