Bittersweet Memories

In my dream, I'm glancing at the text messages I sent to my dad back in New York before he died. They were filled with so much love and affection. I flashback to our memories and I feel his hugs around me. I rub my fingers over his pictures as I hear a voice telling me to wake up, but I refuse to open my eyes. I just wish my father could be with me now. When he was alive, there were times when life wasn't so bad and I was happy. Times when he would take care of me after  I was bullied at school.
Gasping, I wake up to see Edward looking down at me with a worried expression on his face, and I realize that I have tears running down my cheeks.
I glance around to room to see Bella and Jacob gone.
"Bella's getting dressed and Jacob went home because he doesn't go to our school," Edward says, answering my unspoken question.
That only makes me cry harder, and he pulls me to him as I bury my face into his chest, squeezing my eyes shut. I continue to cry about my father, who is never coming back.
"Hey, Edward. . ." Bella trails off when she sees me sobbing. "Oh my God!" She quickly runs over to us.
"Tessa was crying in her sleep," Edward murmurs.
"Are you okay, Tessie?" Bella whispers.
I nod, pulling away from Edward and wiping my tears away. "It was just a nightmare," I say.
Bella nods, her expression still wary. "You sure?"
"I'm fine," I assure her. "I have to get dressed now."
Grabbing my bag, I run up to her bathroom to change out of my pajamas. I quickly pull on my skinny jeans and a white blouse, tying my hair back in a ponytail. Then I brush my teeth and put on my black flats.
"See," I say as soon as I meet Bella and Edward in the driveway. "There's really nothing to worry about."
I get in the back seat of Edward's silver Volvo, feeling like the third wheel as Edward and Bella are up front, talking about some girl named Alice. Looking down, I begin to trace the scars on my wrist, wondering why I started cutting when my father died. When he died, it felt like the end of the end of the world and the cutting is only the beginning.
"That's strange," Edward murmurs as he pulls into the school's parking lot. "What is the dog doing here?"
By dog, he means Jacob.
Bella shrugs. "I think he said something about transferring to our school because he imprinted on Tessa, and he wants to be there for her."
I sigh. Great. Now I have another person to avoid today.
