A Part is Dead

Jacob's POV
"Tessa's in heat," Edward says as he stares with wide eyes at my beautiful kitten. Tessa's skin is getting paler by the second and my heart breaks at the sight of it. She shouldn't be going through this. She deserves better than this. It's my job to protect her and I'm obviously failing.
"So she isn't dead?" Charlie asks in confusion. He has no idea. No idea that vampires and werewolves actually exist in the world he lives in. No idea that Bella is dating a vampire.
Edward sighs. "Not exactly. Only a part of her. . .is dead."
"What are you talking about?!" I yell out of rage and worry. My mate can't have a part of her dead! That's a part of her I'm losing and I want all of her. I crouch down to hold Tessa in my arms. I need to hold her.
"No! You can't touch her!"
My head snaps up and I narrow my eyes at Edward, growling a warning. "Do NOT tell me what to do, you leech! She's mine and I can touch what's mine!"
"But Carlisle told me that any skin contact will only make it more painful for her."
I rip my hands away from Tessa as if I've been shot. I don't want to hurt her. I can't hurt her.
"What do you mean 'only a part of her is dead'?" Charlie asks. I almost forgot he was here with all the tension building up between me and that bloodsucker.
Edward shakes his head. "Carlisle never explained it that much, but Tessa must have a-"
"Fever," I cut in.
Charlie nods wordlessly and walks out of the room.
I glare at Edward. "So, what were you saying?"
  "Tessa must have a werewolf gene in her. One of her parents must be a werewolf and the werewolf side of her must've went into heat. Her human side just couldn't take it and. . .died."
Tessa's POV
My eyes flutter open and I sit up, groaning. Sleeping on the floor could really hurt your back. I look around to find that no one is home and I rise to my feet. Before my hand can even reach the doorknob, someone says, "Kitten!"
I squeal and whirl around, running into Jacob's arms. "Puppy!"
Jacob laughs and twirls me around, burying his face into my hair.
"I was so worried," he murmurs into my hair.
  I bury my face into his chest as the tears fall.
"It hurt so much," I whisper, and he squeezes me tighter in response.
"You have a werewolf gene in you, Kitten," he says.
I pull away from him, and my jaw drops. "What?!"
A/N: Sorry I haven't updated in a while. School came back around and I became really busy trying to get the right supplies. I got inspired because one of my readers commented in the last chapter, asking me if I could update. So here you go. Please don't be mad. *gives Bambi eyes*
