"So, since we're all in the mood for cake, I think we should get this show on the road," Sam says, looking through a cookbook.
"We're baking a cake," I say. "It sounds easy enough."
Jacob nods in agreement. "Yeah, you just throw in some flour, eggs, and baking soda into a mixing bowl. Easy peasy."
"It's not as easy as it sounds, guys," Sam mutters. "There's this chocolate cake you guys can make if you follow the recipe."
"We just follow the recipe and it'll be alright?" I ask, staring down at the cookbook.
"Pretty much," Sam says. "I think you guys should do a test run first, though. Just so we can see if you guys are better cooks than my Emily."
"Challenge accepted," Jake and I say in unison.
Sam smirks. "Will you two be good on your own? Emily and I forgot we had to go somewhere this morning. I could cancel if you guys want Emily to be here as a guide."
"It would be very helpful if Emily sta-" Jacob doesn't to get to finish his sentence because I cover his mouth with my hand.
"We'll be fine," I tell Sam sweetly. "After all, you said that if we follow the recipe, it'll be alright."
Before Jacob can stomp on my foot in disagreement, I kick his ankle. He tries to protest, but only muffled sounds could be heard. I squeal in surprise when I feel his tongue on my hand, but I don't move my hand.
Sam looks from me to Jacob and then back to me again.
"If you say so," Sam says, giving us an uncertain smile before leaving the kitchen.
It's only after the sound of the front door closing that I remove my hand from Jacob's mouth.
"Why did you let him leave?!" he says immediately.
I roll my eyes. "Calm down, Puppy. How hard can it be to bake a simple chocolate cake?"
"We don't even know how to cook," Jacob points out. "We're just two teenagers used to somebody cooking for us."
I throw my hands up. "Would you stop overreacting, Jakey? It's just a cake! Now shut up or I'll glue your mouth shut. You can just call out the ingredients, Puppy." I give him an annoying smirk.
He glares at me before stomping over to the cookbook . "Three cups of flour," he instructs.
I grab a bag of flour and open it.
"Don't you need a measuring cup?" he asks.
I shrug. "I'm not really good at math," I say, tipping the bag over and pouring a lot of it into the mixing bowl.
"Tessa!" Jacob shouts. "That's way more than three cups!"
I stick my tongue out at him. "I know what I'm doing, Jacob. What's next?"
"Kitten, you have no idea what you're doing," he says, shaking his head.
I raise my eyebrows. "Would you like to try this, Puppy? It's harder than it looks. What's the next ingredient?"
"Two cups of sugar," he says, chuckling when I pour half of the bag of sugar into the bowl. "Then pour one and a half teaspoons of baking powder and one teaspoon of baking soda into your little mess."
I grin, pouring the entire pack of baking soda and baking powder into the already messed up cake.
"Next, Puppy!" I demand, snapping my fingers.
"Half a teaspoon of salt, and don't rush me!" Jacob snaps. "I don't think you're even following the recipe."
"I believe that I am following it," I say. "Am I or am I not using the right ingredients?"
He groans. "You aren't even measuring anything!"
"And you didn't even ask me if you could mark me!" I blurt out without thinking.
His eyes hold no emotion when he says, "Why are you bring this up now, Tessa?"
"I want to know why you marked me," I say.
"Because you're my mate," he mutters, glaring at me for the second time today.
I match his glare with my own. "That's not an answer, Jacob."
"Of course it is. Now, do you want to finish baking this cake or-"
I cut him off. "I want you to answer my question!"
"I did!"
I back away slowly, anger pooling in me. "Just tell me what's going on!"
"Don't you even think about walking away from me, Kitten," he says, sounding calm, but I can tell he's trying not to get angry, and I decide to take his advice, stopping in my tracks. I can't look at him, though.
"Look at me, Kitten."
"No," I mutter, staring down at the ground.
"I said, look at me," he repeats, his voice still calm, but he still looks like he's ready to explode in any second.
"And I said no," I whisper, still not looking at him.
"Look at me!" he yells, pinning me to the wall in less than a second. In fear and shock, my eyes snap to his.
"Don't even get mad at me for not looking at you when you did something much worser," I snap, feeling confident. "You bit me! You were the one who walked into my life when I was happy without you in the first place!"
His anger fades, and now he looks so guilty and broken.
"Kitten, I-"
"You can't call me that anymore!"
He looks so hurt, and I resist the urge to comfort him. "I'm sorry," he whispers.
"I can't even hate you, Jacob." I look down, holding back my tears.
He sighs. "It's the mark. It kind of. . . seals our love."
"But what if I don't want to love you anymore?!"
Jacob slams his hands next to my head and growls, nuzzling his head into my neck. I try to push him off, but he's much stronger than me.
"Tessa," he says in a quiet and tight voice. "I suggest that you shut up right now." His body is shaking in fury, and I stay quiet to ensure my safety.
He leaves a trail of kisses from my neck to my lips, and I turn my head quickly, not in the mood to kiss him. He growls, roughly turning my head back to face him, and he desperately presses his lips to mine. After a few seconds, he growls in frustration.
"Kiss me!"
"Not until I get my answer," I say stubbornly.
"I lost control the day that I marked you, okay?!" He turns, punching the wall, making a huge whole in it. He continues destroying things until he's standing in the middle of broken things. Broken chairs, a broken table. Broken everything. I walk up to him slowly and cautiously. Instead of looking at me, he just kind of collapses. The anger goes away from his eyes, his breathing slows, and he falls to his knees. Wrapping his arms around my legs and burying his head in my stomach, he starts to cry.
"I-I didn't mean to." His voice wavers as he says that. "You were just. . .you were going to kill yourself. You were going to disappear on your birthday. And, and I. . .damn it!" He holds me tighter, nearly making me fall over as he starts to sob. "You looked so hurt, so betrayed. . .so terrified. And it was all because of me." I fight to hold back the tears that threaten to fall. "I know I'm a terrible boyfriend, Tessa. I know I'm a monster, but to see you think I was one. . . it hurt so much." When he stops speaking, the only thing that could be heard is his sobs.
I step away from him, and he lets me, looking so defeated.
"Maybe we should take a break," I whisper.
Shocked, he looks up at me. "No, please no, Tessa. I'm so, so sorry and-"
"Bye, Jacob," I say, running out the door only to burst into tears on his porch.
A/N: I am ashamed to say that I cried during this part, and teamjacob must hate me now, but don't worry. Tessa and Jacob are going to get back together
