What Tessa looks like just in case some of you forgot ⬆️👍
In the morning, I wake up in Jacob's bed to the sound of shouting outside. I yawn loudly and get up to look out the window. Jacob is arguing with someone near the porch. Sam. The last time I saw Sam was when me and Jake baked a cake. I shudder, remembering how I ran out. I wonder how much pain I put Jacob through when I left him.
Stretching, I run out. Sam is wearing a pair of basketball shorts and he's shirtless.
"Just leave!" Jacob yells. "Don't ever come back! The pack doesn't need you!"
"Oh, well, excuse me for trying to be a good alpha!"
Jake's face is red. "I hate you!"
Sam starts to throw a punch, but Jacob grabs his arm. They kind of push each other until Billy comes out, giving me a slight nod before trying to break the fight.
I'm trembling. I don't know what to do. I don't want either of the boys to get hurt. I'm about to scream at them to stop, but Billy says, calm and strong: "Sam, just go. Jake has to calm down."
Sam nods and jogs away.
Billy says something that I can't hear and Jacob storms away.
"No!"
He clenches his hands into fists and turns his head. When our gazes catch and lock, he runs over.
"Tessa!" He grabs my hand. Pulls. And starts running.
None of us say a word as he tears away from the house, moving fast, holding on. It's a miracle how I manage to keep up, but he doesn't let go of my hand.
Finally,  Jacob stops and I nearly bump into him. We're in the middle of La Push. No one else is here but us. I bend over, hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath.
"Dude, you are fast," I pant.
Jake picks up a handful of sand and throws it into the ocean. "He made a plan to get Victoria to stop going after Bella. But the plan involved using you. You know how protective I am over you, right? Well, not only is he ignoring my feelings, but he wants to sacrifice you. He thinks you'll be the perfect distraction for Victoria while they try to hide Bella. And he knows how much I want to keep you safe, but he still wants to go through with the plan."
"You stood up to him," I murmur.
"Yeah. I did it before. He'll be back. And I'll do it again. Anything to keep you safe."
"But I don't want to be the reason why you're fighting with Sam." I frown at the thought. "I don't want you getting hurt. And I'm pretty sure Emily doesn't want Sam to get hurt."
"So I'm supposed to sit around and let my mate be used as bait? I don't think so."
I touch his arm. "Bella is my friend. I'd do anything to help her. Even if it means me being used as bait."
He sighs and looks at my bare feet. "You aren't wearing shoes."
I smile sheepishly. "I didn't have a chance to put my shoes on during our marathon run."
I gasp when he picks me up bridal style. "What are you doing, Jake?"
"You may step on something sharp." Our gazes lock and my heart feels like it's about to explode in my chest.
"Do you ever wonder why bad things happen?" he asks. "Do you ever get so mad, you want to. . ." He growls all of a sudden and stares down hungrily at my lips. "Oh, fuck it."
Then he kisses me.

I originally planned to head up to my room without saying hi to my mom because knowing her, she's gonna start an argument. As soon as I go through the front door after being dropped off by Jacob, she says, "I'm very disappointed in you, Tess."
I freeze in my tracks as my eyes widen in surprise. There goes the attempt of trying not to have an argument.
"Disappointed?" I spit out. "You are disappointed in me?!"
"You can't go running to some fuck boy's house without-"
"He is not a fuck boy."
She sighs. "But I raised you to-"
"You're never around anymore!" I yell, and she flinches back. "You hardly ever come home, Mom, and when you do, you're always too busy to spend time with your fucking daughter. And that's me, Mom! That's me! You can't just expect me to go on with my life without a mom, but if I have to, I will."
She looks wounded by my words, but before she can reply, I run up to my room.
Fuck life.
