I'm crying as I walk to Edward's house. When I get there, I knock on the door and his sister, Alice, answers it.
"Hey, Tessa," Alice says, smiling at me.
"Hi," I say in a shaky voice. Ugh. Alice is like the fashion police and my face must be blotchy and my eyes must look puffy from all that crying. I take a big, shaky breath. "I'm sorry for coming without calling first. I just couldn't be around him anymore. And if I went home, my mom would be able to see. . ." I feel the tears coming on again and I hold my hand up to my eyes. "I'm sorry," I say in a choked voice. "I'll be gone in a minute."
"Um," Alice says, twisting her hands together. "Are you okay?"
Trying to play it cool, I nod and give her smile that only lasts for a second.
"No," I sob, and Alice takes a tissue out of her pocket and hands it to me. I sink down to the ground, pressing the tissue to my face. "I just feel like an idiot, you know. I should've knew it was coming. Like, for reals. But my mom always said that he was a fuck boy."
"Should've knew what?" Alice asks, sitting down beside me.
I wipe under my eyes, then I blow my nose on the tissue and look at her. "That Jacob would break up with me because he was in love Bella."
"Oh, god," Alice says, handing me another tissue. "I'm so sorry-"
"And he actually had the nerve to kiss me after he told me," I say, my voice choked, as I shake my head. "Last night I told him that he always stands in my way because he got mad at me for drinking. I had a fight with my mom about him. She called him a fuck boy. I should've listened to her." I look at Alice, tears running down my cheeks. "Jacob imprinted on me. Not on Bella. Why would he fall in love with her when he didn't even mark her?"
"I'm so sorry," Alice says, handing me another tissue. How many tissues does this girl keep in her pockets?
"And so I said, 'Oh, my god,' right after he kissed me. I really was considering on staying. I swear," I say, pressing the tissue under my eyes again. "But then he had to go apologize, and I just had to get away. I didn't want to break down in front of him." I start to cry again, and Alice reaches over and tentatively pats me on the back.
"I'm so sorry," she repeats.
"It's fine," I say, standing up. She stands up, too. "I'm really sorry about this." I stuff my crumpled tissues into my pocket. "Thanks for listening."
"Sure," Alice says. I give her a half smile, then I straighten up and take a deep breath before jogging away.
  Jacob's POV
"Tessa and I broke up," I tell Bella. We decided that we needed to hang out because it's been forever since it's only been the two of us. Right now, we're walking down La Push, the place where Tessa and I shared our first kiss. I shake my head, trying to get that out of my mind.
Bella stares at me. "When," she starts. "When did this happen?"
I let out a long breath, then go on, "It seemed like we were drifting apart," I say. "I wanted to make it work, I really did. But last night Tessa got drunk, and she said that I was always standing in her way. And I don't want to do that to her anymore."
"So. . .," Bella starts. "It wasn't because of me?"
"No," I say, shaking my head. "I mean, when you first came back to Forks, I wasn't thinking that way," I say. "At all. I was committed to trying to find a girlfriend. And you were just a friend to me. But then. . ." I glance over at her. "But a some point, I started thinking about you more than I knew I should. Much more." Bella blushes at that. "But I wasn't sure. . . I didn't know how to tell you because you found Edward. And you got me Tessa."
"Right," she murmurs.
"And it's not fair to Tessa," I admit. "Or you. So I talked to her about it this morning."
"What happened?" Bella asks.
I take a deep breath and let it out. "She felt the same way," I say. "And as soon as I started to tell her what I was feeling, I kissed her to make sure I was doing the right thing. I think I must've, like, put too much inside her head because she pulled away from me and ran out before I can even apologize. And she's been ignoring all my calls."
"I'm really sorry."
I nod, putting an arm around Bella's shoulders. "It's fine. I think-"
And then my cell phone rings. I look at Bella as I pull away, glancing down at the caller ID. Tessa, aka the love of my life. I don't know why she's calling now after I called her about twenty times.
I put the phone to my ear. "Hello?"
"Jacob?" It's Carlisle. He sounds anxious, and immediately, I start to feel bad.
"Dr. Cullen, don't worry; Bella's fine," I say. "She's right by my side, and-"
He cuts me off. "It's Tessa. There's been an accident. She's at the hospital. I think she'll want to see you when she wakes up. If she wakes up."
