New Surroundings

"I don't like it," I inform my mom after I finished walking around our new mansion. "It's too roomy."
"But roomy is good!" my mom exclaims.
I laugh. "Roomy is bad. There's eight different bedrooms and only two of us."
And it's true. When my dad died while we were living in New York, my mother thought it would be a good idea to start over. She claimed that it would be a good opportunity for me to make friends since I was bullied back in my old school.
"Mom, are the kids here nice?" I ask nervously.
She nods. "There's this one girl named Bella Swan. I'm going on a date with her dad Charlie Swan tonight, and we agreed that you and Bella could have a sleep over."
I frown. "Mom, nobody is ever going to replace Dad."
My mom sighs. "I know, but we need to move on, sweetie."
"But I don't want to," I snap. "I miss him.
"I do, too."
I'm on the verge of tears now. "Then why are you trying to replace him?" I shout.
"Oh, look at the time, I have to drop you off at Bella's," my mom says, changing the subject, and I'm grateful for that. At my dad's funeral we promised each other that we'll never talk about him again. I guess we just broke that promise.
Making my way upstairs to pack my backpack for things I'll need tonight and tomorrow morning, I pause midway to catch my breath. Man, I want to kill whoever designed this house. Why did they choose stairs over elevators? I guess I'll just have to get adapted to my new surroundings.
