Tessa's POV
I wake up with a headache and notice that I'm in the hospital. I have no idea what time it is. It takes a few moments to register Jacob's face as I slowly regain consciousness. His eyes are bloodshot, like he's been crying. He's wearing black jeans and yellow shirt.
Hot mama
I roll my eyes at Ava. The hospital room is white and uncomfortable as the hospital lights blind me with their brightness. That's when I realize I can't feel or move my legs. I cry out in panic.
Jacob jumps up and leans over me. He looks scared.
"Thank goodness you're alive," he blurts out. "Tessa, when I tell you this promise me you won't freak out."
I frown. "Okay, but I don't like the sound of-"
He cuts me off. "The doctors said you were going to be a quadriplegic."
My jaw drops. "What?!"
Jacob laughs nervously. "They're working on finding a cure for this, Tessa."
I groan. "I'd be dead by the time they find one, Jacob."
He sighs. "Don't be so negative. Have hope."
I roll my eyes, so badly wanting to say, Under my dead body. "Is my mom okay?" I say instead.
Jacob looks relieved at the topic change. "She's in the waiting room," he replies. "Edward, Alice, and Bella are with her."
I nod, tears going down my cheeks. I don't want to be wheelchair-bound. That's totally unattractive. I'd be surprised if Jacob doesn't leave me for that.
Jacob hugs me as I start to sob.
"Awww, Tessa, don't cry, baby. It'll be okay. You'll see."
Later, after Edward, Alice, and Bella visit me, Bella drives everyone home. My mom stays and tries to assure me that being a quadriplegic won't be that bad. But I don't believe her.

Jacob's POV
"Jacob!" Tessa's mom runs out before I can even get up their driveway. It's been six days since Tessa got out of the hospital, and since her mom works a lot, they decided that I should be the caretaker.
I smile as Mrs. Morgan hugs me. "Hi," I greet, letting her lead me to their dining room. She takes a seat at the table and I sit across from her.
"So you know what a quadriplegic is, right?" she asks.
I nod. "It's when you're stuck in a wheelchair."
Mrs. Morgan laughs. "Well, that's one way to put it. There are many different types, but in Tessa's case, it's the loss of the legs and barely being able to use the hands and the arms."
I nod again. "Okay, but-"
"Can you drive, Jacob?"
I chuckle nervously. "Yeah, but I don't really have my license yet."
"That's alright. Just make sure no cops pull you over." She grins at me, and it takes me a moment to understand that she's expecting me to grin back. So I grin back, showing her my pearly whites. "The hours of the job are long, though," she tells me. "Eight in the morning to six at in the evening, sometimes longer. Your days off are everyday except for Saturday and Sunday because I know you have school. So Bella's dad said that he'd handle the weekdays. Do you mind?"
"No," I say. "It's fine. At least I get to spend more time with Tessa."
Mrs. Morgan gasps. "Oh, I almost forgot! No sex," she tells me.
I can feel my cheeks burning. "Um, I'm not going to-"
She cuts me off. "You can see Tessa now. She's been begging to see you."
I smile at that, murmur a thanks, and get up. There's like a million stairs in this mansion, and by the time I make it to Tessa's bedroom door, I'm panting. Do I knock or just barge in? Man, I suck at this boyfriend stuff.
"Jake, is that you?" Tessa asks.
My eyes widen. How did she know? There goes my plan to surprise her. I sigh, pushing the door open. Tessa's bedroom is literally a pink and purple wonderland. Everything is either pink or purple. The walls, the bed, the floor. Everything. Tessa's hair is braided and she's wearing purple-and-white polka dotted leggings and a large grey sweatshirt. And she still manages to look beautiful in a wheelchair.
She raises her eyebrows when she sees me. "So?" she starts. "Did you get the job?"
Tessa's POV
Jacob chuckles. "Yeah," he says. "I got the job."
I squeal. "Yay you!"
He squeals back, and does a horrible imitation of my voice as he says, "Yay me!"
I purse my lips. "Don't mock me."
He laughs at that. "Sorry."
My lips curve into a smile when I get an idea. "Jake-" I start, then I let out a bloodcurdling groan.
Jacob stiffens.
"Tessa?"
I don't even glance at him because I know if I do, I'll break into laughter. So I groan again. I grimace, tilting my head to the side and sinking it into my shoulders.
"Tessa! Are you okay?" Jacob sounds anxious.
Oh, God, I think. Maybe I shouldn't scare him this much.
I straighten up and giggle. "Yup," I say, popping the 'p'.
Jacob shakes his head. "Are you trying to give me a panic attack?" He grins. Then my mom walks into the room.
"Don't worry, Jake," she says, moving to stand by him and I realize that she's been eavesdropping. "If you need any help with Tessa, you can always call Charlie or Edward. Their phone numbers are on the fridge." She lets out a short laugh. "Tessa's bark is worse than her bite."
I roll my eyes. "I'm right here, Mom," I say. "You don't have to talk about me as if I'm not in the same room. My brain isn't paralyzed. Yet."
My mom glares at me. "If you're going to keep acting like this, Tessa, I can always send Jacob home."
I frown.
Moms can be so rude sometimes!A/N: omg I'm sooooooo sorry for not updating sooner. I just had a really bad case of writers block and I just needed some time to find myself. So once again, I'm sooooo sorry
