Chapter 28

Kayla pov -11 years later- -17years old-

"Hey dad can i go to Jackie's?" I asked as i walked down the stairs "i don't know ask your mom" dad said as he took the pen out of his mouth and wrote something down in his book. "Oh-kay then, working on a new song I'm guessing" i chuckled "yes." Was all he said as he started strumming his guitar. I walked to the kitchen then out the backyard to find mom. I found her sitting on the steps watching Jack and Jessie play in the pool. "Mom. Mommy. Mama. Mom. Ma. Mommy. Mom. Mom. Moooommmm" i called as i walked towards her "Kayla. Kayla. Kayla. Kayla." She looked back at me "can i go to Jackie's?" I asked "go ahead, just be back by dinner" she smiled "thank you" i smiled and kissed her cheek. "See you later" she chuckled as i jogged out of the backyard through the gate. Ive been so bored and summer has just started. I shouldn't be this bored, me and Jackie graduated and Dan did to. Barely passing. Dan is never home, Jackie is always busy. Im feeling more alone than i usually do. "Hey Kayla" my neighbour Lee smiled "hey Lee" i waved as i pulled out my car keys from my pocket. I unlocked my car and got in. Jackie's apartment is only a five minute drive away if traffic isn't horrible. Once i pulled out of the drive way i turned on the radio "... And since its thursday how about we play some throwback songs, heres a song from 2012 called fallout by a local band Marianas Trench" the announcer said and i chuckled. The first time i saw the music video for the song i was 4.

"DADDY YOUR SONG IS COMING ON TV!" I shouted as i turned up the tv once the lady said daddy's band's name. "Which song?" Dad walked in with mom "fallout?" I questioned not know if i said it right. Mom and dad looked at each other weirdly as the video started playing. I watched the screen intensely while dad ran around. "Thats not mom" i pointed out as him and a lady showed up on the screen "why are you kissing her and touching her like that?" I asked confused not turning away from the screen. "You almost hit her!" I screeched as i watched. I could hear mom and dad whispering behind me but i didn't bother to listen. By the time the video ended so many questions clouded my mind. I turned around from my spot on the floor and looked up at mom and dad. "Who was she?" I asked "thats Darla" dad stated "why were you kissing her?" I asked "it was just for the video" he said "why were there explosions?" I questioned "for dramatic affect" he laughed. I sat there looking up at them "anymore questions?" Mom asked me "one more. Did it hurt when she bit your lip? It hurts when i bite my lip" i said "no it didn't hurt" dad chuckled and stood up.

Once i got to Jackie's apartment, i parked and went in. I walked in then cinto the elevator and pressed (4) and waited for the door to shut. I pulled out my phone and decided i better call Jackie to warn her that I'm on my way up.

-Dan pov-

"I love you" Jackie kissed me again "i love you too" i mumbled as she slipped my shirt off over my head. "...God bless mother nature She's a single woman too, She took for the Heaven and she did what she had to do, She taught every angel to rearrange the sky and each and every woman could find her perfect guy..." Jackie's phone started ringing. "Let the answering machine get it" she said as she threw her phone to the ground. "... Hey Jackie, its Kayla. Thought id come visit since we haven't seen each other for a while. Im in the elevator on my way up to your apartment!" I heard Kayla's voice. Jackie jumped off of my lap and grabbed my shirt "you have to hid" she said fast as she tossed me my shirt "why? She's going to find out about us eventually" i said staying seated "please Dan. She's going to hate me if she finds out now" Jackie pleaded "we've been dating since we were 15. Are you ashamed or something?" I asked hurt "no Dan, its just... You don't date your best friends brother. She might be mad." Jackie sighed as someone knocked on the door "dan please" Jackie whispered. I stood up and walked to the door and hid in the coat closet. I heard Jackie walk and open the door. "Kayla!" I heard her exclaim "Jackie!" I heard Kayla, i looked through a small crack and saw them hug. "How've you been?" Kayla asked Jackie as she slid off her coat. Shit. "Pretty good" Jackie paused as Kayla reached towards the closet door "wait!" Jackie said loudly "what?" Kayla chuckled "what are you doing?" Jackie asked "hanging up my coat" Kayla said as the door opened. "Dan" she tilted her head confused. She looked at Jackie then back at me. "I cant believe this" she hissed "what? We're just playing hide and seek" Jackie said nervously "with Dans shirts off with lipstick all over his face" Kayla glared at Jackie "because he wanted to try it on and its really hot in here" Jackie said. "This was a waste of time. Im leaving" Kayla glared at me as she turned to leave "why are you mad" i grabbed her arm "because me best friend and my twin are dating" Kayla said "thats not it. What else" i stared her down "you never told me" she mumbled "what?" Jackie asked "You never told me" Kayla said louder pulling her arm away from me and leaving the apartment. I pulled my shirt on over my head and ran after her. "Whats your problem" i hissed and stopped in front of Kayla "everything!" Kayla threw her hands up in frustration. "What?" I asked "I've been alone since February. You've been busy, Jackie's been busy, dad's been stressed with the new album, mom's been with the twins. I don't have anyone else. Ive been alone." She ran a hand through her hair. I thought for a moment. It was true, me and Jackie had started to get really serious just after christmas. We've been neglecting her. "Im sorry Kayla" i sighed "I'm going home" she walked passed me and into the elevator.
