Tendrils of infiltrating sunlight enticed Shizi from her sleep, blinded momentarily by the bright sunlight bouncing off white walls that didn't belong to her room. Skin was pressed against her cheek and a melodious thumping was heard in her sharp ears. The warmth cradling her entire right side made her almost melt in pleasure. She rubbed her nose against the smooth skin and purred while breathing in a huge breath of the person's scent. Steel and dirt and cinnamon.
"Morning, sleep well?" His baritone voice vibrates through his chest and into her skull. Shizi smiled sleepily and cuddled against her guardian, whom curled his arm down her ribs to draw her in ever closer to himself.
"Very well. What about you? How are your injuries?" The sheet around his mouth shifted to outline a small smile at the girl's questions and caring.
"I'm fine, I promise. There have been worse incidents, and I've survived them."
"I was scared you were going to die..."
"Remember when I faked my death in the woods during that mission with the bridge builder? I made you a promise that I'd never do it again, and I plan to keep it that way. Always." Kakashi slipped the sheet just past his lips to gently kiss her forehead sweetly. Their loving moment was cut short when a disapproving nurse slammed open the door hatefully. Obviously her distaste was from the fact that Shizi was in the room and breathing.
"Please get off, I need to assess his vitals." The female silently slid from the bed and into an adjacent chair, ears drooping slightly. The nurse hustled around the room, quickly checking vitals and adjusting medicines. At some point between kissing Shizi's forehead and the door opening, Kakashi was able to recover his face with the sheet in his usual mask formation.
As the nurse walked around the bed, Shizi caught a nose-full of very manly cologne. Someone was the hospital to-do. Sneezing violently, Shizi tried to force the smell out of her head and nostrils. It didn't work and it resulted in her sneezing uncontrollably until she left the room, wherein Shizi threw open the shuttered windows and delighted herself with the crisp and chilled air.
"I'm guessing you smelled her too, huh Shizi?" She laughed at Kakashi's question and took in another deep breath of the fresh air.
"I thought I was going to suffocate!" Returning to her guardian's side, she enjoyed his scent much more than the woman's. His wasn't too overwhelming and smelled really good.
"I think she liked you, Kika." Teases the girl and squirmed when he poked her in her ribs.
"I don't want the hospital prostitute, Shizi. She'd make a horrible mother and bad influence on you. Besides, who needs another when I have everything already." Shizi pushed up onto her elbows to look Kakashi in the eye.
"So you've never, not once, thought about settling down and having your own kids?"
"No, I have once."
"Why didn't you?"
"Well, I got summoned to the Hokage's office. And there was this girl, she was about 10 years old. She looked a little scared at first, but also like she was at war with the world." Shizi giggled at his story-like description of their first meeting, and thought back to that day. She was at war with the world, to make them see her as something more than a disfigured freak.
"What do you think it would be like if someone else was picked as my guardian? Instead of you, it was someone else, like Asuma or Kurenai or something."
"Well, one thing, I'd probably still be in that warehouse. And... I think it would be rather lonely for me. They tried to move you once."
"What? When? Why?"
