Chapter 7

Chapter 7: Mate!

For once in my life I got up before anyone disturbed my sleep. It's baffling though. Dalia and I came in after 12. I should still be asleep right now. It is 5 in the morning, I've got thirty minute more to sleep but I can't.

There is this stirring feeling in the back of my head. Like someone is walking around. For once I can't wait to go to school. Something is going to happen am not sure what but am excited.

I jumped out of bed. Today there is a skip in my step. This is getting weird. None the less, I make my way to the bathroom to take a shower.

The mood has not shaken. Am in my closet trying to find the perfect outfit for today. Yeah, it is confirmed this is definitely strange. Why am I so happy today?

I pulled on some red pants, black loose fit ¾ sleeve leather blouse and black leather heeled ankle boots. My right hand is arrayed with small black and gold bracelets. Lastly I had on a long necklace with a cross at the end and my wolf one.

Hair straightened and my signature natural makeup on. I was ready for school. With one last glance in the mirror I grabbed my stuff and head down stairs.

It was the same old same old with the family breakfast. This time I did not idle long.

I'm riding solo today. Dalia wants to drive her baby to work. Well who could blame her? Yesterday's drive was the bomb. If you think she is afraid of speed she is not. She just doesn't like when I do because I go way faster than what she calls fast.

Wishing everyone one fare well, I went to my car. In no time I was speeding down the road towards school.

Yesterday I took orders from Dalia and slowed down. Well today let's just say, the only time the car slowed down was when it was parked. When I got out my car, most student mouth were agape at the speed I came in at. I flashed them a smirk as I made my way inside.

Oh brother. When I entered the school the gossip level was high. They were still on Mr. Popular and his big entrance he will be making today. I just sighed and shake my head.

As I made my way down the hallway people started looking at me. Ok, what did I do now? The boys started whistling at me and making cat calls and some of the girls had a look of envy in their eyes.

Am just going to go get my books. Yeah, anything that will get me away from this strange day.

Here I am just minding my own business when Celeste came running up to me. The girl look like she had too much sugar this morning just jumping up and down and giggling. Fudge it, I rule this my strangest day ever.

"Calm your panties down, and tell me what's on your mind." Exasperation and boredom was all over my features and in my voice.

"You are extremely talented. The whole school saw the video of you and Luke dancing on the field." My eyes went wide and my mouth was agape.

"What!" I think I said it a little too loud. The hallway went quiet and all eyes were on me. I smiled awkwardly at everyone and they went back to whatever they were doing.

Then I heard it. The song I was dancing to. A group of girls are watching a video. I know it is rude but I grabbed the phone from them and took a view of the screen. There it was me and Luke dancing. Oh great, just what I need to start my day.

"I got to go." I say to celeste as I close my locker and started walking to class.

"Where you going?" Like seriously the bell just went off.

"To class, see you at lunch." With that we parted.

First and second period fly by quickly. Am currently in 3rd period math which is almost over. Math is my favourite subject. None of my friends are in this class so I have no one to talk to.

Mrs. Donovan is already done teaching but she won't let us out until the bell rings.

"Hey there sweet thing." A boy's voice whispered in my ears. "How about you teach me some of your moves back at my place." I turned to look at the owner of the voice. He was smirking. What an egotistical ass.

If I was one of those easy girls. I would gladly take the offer. He is cute, but I am not easy. Am fighting the urge to laugh in his face. I smirked at him and got closer to his face.

"How about-" my voice low and seductive. "- in your dreams. The only thing I will do at your place is shove my heels so far up your ass until  it touches your eyeballs."

His eyes went wide at my statement. He is too gullible. He must have thought I would give in to his suggestion. I got up from my seat leaving him dumfounded. His friends were laughing their ass off.

Just as I was about to exit the bell went off. I made my way to my locker and put my books away. Afterward I left to meet up with Celeste and the others at the cafeteria.

Well I was not prepared for what I saw when I entered the cafeteria. The soccer team was all dress in their uniform. Three were standing on a table in the centre while the rest form a line from the table to the cafeteria door.

"Listen up everyone!" Chris yelled loudly silencing the place. "For the first time in our school history, we have a girl on our team." They gasped and I heard a group ask who she is.

"Don't judge." Cole spoke up. He is one of the vice-captain. "This girl can kick ass. In fact she kicked all our asses." Once again the crowd gasped. The team is the best they never lose.

"Yes. The girl got mad skills not only for soccer." The way Luke said that part had double meaning. "She is nice but feisty. Her warmup is one to watch. Great entertainment." I think I found my new bestie. But am still kicking his ass.

"We speak of none other than Athena Hylton." the team spoke in unison like they practised it. Next you know am being pushed to the centre. All eyes on me again. Great just great. Now am standing on the table with the three boys.

"Athena say something." Great now am going to have to give a speech.

"Something." He gave me a stern look. I was following orders. "You said to say 'something' and I did." The crowd started laugh at my joke but he still look stern.

"Fine. Am glad to make history. Who says girl can't handle playing with boys?" I think I started a riot. Girls screamed out yeah in agreement. "The team is really good and am going to enjoy kicking some ass on the field." The crowd went wild.

"Lastly." I gave all the boys a pointed look. "Do not follow Luke's advice about watching warm-ups. There is nothing to see. Enjoy your lunch." With that I walked off.

Finally getting my food I went to sit at my friends table. At our new table. Since I joined the soccer team they want me to sit with them. But I didn't want to abandon my friends so we all got a new table.

We are just enjoying the moment joking around and talking animatedly. That was until I smelt something great. It is intoxicating and I just want to follow it. I don't know how I smell it. It is not near me or beside me.

My head starts stirring again and before you know it am following the scent. I blocked out everyone as they ask me where am going. All that matters right now is who the scent belongs to.

Everyone was either in the cafeteria or out front. The hallway was empty. What is happening to me? Soon enough I was facing the way to the field.

How the hell am I smelling this? I can finally define the scent. It smelt like cinnamon and forest. Weird combo but I was mesmerized by it. I walked out to the field but no one was there and then I turned around.

"Mate!" Hold up, wait a minute. Did I just say mate? It's like something in the back of my head took control of my mouth and pushed that word out. Something strange is happening.
