"I hate how we all have to wear these ugly ties now," Jacque said, stepping in front of the full length mirror in her shared dorm room. She struggled trying to correctly tie the navy blue and white striped tie.
"You're making it harder than it actually is. Here." Lauren, Jacque's roommate, walked over to Jacque and stood between her in the mirror and tied her tie. When she was finished, she went back over to her bed and proceeded to put on her uniform loafers.
Jacque grimaced at her reflection in the mirror, particularly the tie. "They could have at least made it a clip on. This whole tying business is going to get old real fast." Just as Jacque went to grab her navy blue blazer, there was a knock on the door. Instinctively, Jacque turned invisible. Lauren rolled her eyes and went back to putting on her sock.
"Come i-" The door opened before Lauren even finished and Jacque and Lauren's friends, Maria and Mckenzie, walked in. Maria and Mckenzie were roommates in the other dorm building.
"I brought treats!" Mckenzie said. She was holding three venti Starbucks cups. Maria already had one in her hand and was sipping it every so often. Mckenzie threw one towards Lauren who caught it without even looking up, and tossed one to Jacque who didn't even blink when she caught it. Jacque took a sip and smacked her lips.
"Yum. Still warm." Lauren and Mckenzie laughed when Maria gagged.
"You guys are gross. How can you drink that? How do you think that poor human felt," Maria said, sitting at the foot of Lauren's bed and crossing her legs. Today she was wearing black Converse which, though black, were completely out of uniform. Not that Maria cared. She had been at Vampira's for so long that she figured she could bend some uniform rules by now. She was also wearing a small white bracelet with her name on it. It seemed simple, but wearing any type of jewelry was strictly forbidden.
"Maria, you need to stop with this. It's annoying as hell," Jacque said.
"Yeah. And the human felt as though they were giving their blood to a hospital for people who might need it someday. It's not like anyone died for this," Mckenzie said, holding up her drink a little higher.
"Not all of us hate ourselves enough to live off of animal blood. The stuff is nasty," Jacque added.
"Guys, just let her do what she wants," Lauren interjected. Maria motioned toward Lauren.
"Thank you Lauren. At least one of you has a heart," Maria said.
"Honey, I have a heart, it just doesn't work. None of ours do," Mckenzie said. Maria rolled her eyes.
"Besides, someday she'll realize that she's wrong and she'll want to be able to have full strength. Plus, animal blood makes your skin blotchy," Lauren finished. Maria's hands instinctively went to her face.
"Maybe if you drank something normal for once your power would come in," Jacque teased. Maria's eyes turned red and she flashed her fangs at Jacque who just laughed.
"Whatever. Class starts soon. Let's just go." Jacque and Lauren picked up their bags and the four girls filed out of the dorm room and started walking towards the main building. To get from building to building, there were underground tunnels. You see, vampires basically fry in the sunlight, so they have a tunnel system to go everywhere. They can go outside at night, though.
"I'm not sure how I feel about this tie thing," Mckenzie said, fiddling with her tie with the hand that wasn't holding her drink. The girls walked into the main building and said their polite 'good morning's to the lady at the front desk.
"Right?! And even if they insist on us having them, why can't they at least be clip o-" Jacque stopped right in front of the announcement board.
"What?" Mckenzie asked before looking up at the board.
