Part 8

Mckenzie laid in her bed, just thinking about what had happened hours before. When she and Michael got back to her room, they had been grilled to no end by Maria, Jacque, Calum, and Lauren. Mckenzie and Michael told them everything, except the kiss. That was their little secret for now.

It was pitch black outside except for the light of the moon. Howls could be heard from all around as werewolves went for runs throughout the woods. Mckenzie knew Maria was awake and vice verse, but neither of them said a word. Sometimes Mckenzie wondered if Maria even slept.

It wasn't long before Mckenzie had fallen asleep. When her eyes opened again, she was sitting in one of the student lounges watching tv.

"A body has been found just outside the boundaries of Vampira's School for the Supernatural. We don't yet know who is responsible, but our specialized team of hunters is heading over now to investigate the crime scene..." Mckenzie noticed everything around her move as if someone had pressed fast forward. She watched as the sun set and then rose again and suddenly there were new people milling about the lounge.

"Breaking news: another body was found this morning near Vampira's School. Investigators suspect a vampire..." The room did another's day worth of fast forward. People scurried in and out until she was the only one left. It was dark and then light again. The tv crackled to life.

"Two more bodies have been found, this time inside the boundaries of Vampira's School. Investigators have declared that the work was done by a vampire. Families are starting to wonder if the recent integration program initiated by supernatural private schools was a good idea..." Mckenzie blinked and then she was running. She looked to her left and saw Jacque and Calum running as well. She felt a hand squeeze her right hand and looked to see Michael and Lauren to his right. The four of them were yelling, but Mckenzie couldn't hear them. Her eyebrows furrowed and her left fist clenched. She could hear her heart pounding in her ears. She was holding something, but she didn't have time to look. Jacque and Lauren were crying. Calum's face was red from yelling. The five of them stopped running once they reached the front doors of the school. The sun was high in the sky. Jacque fell to her knees and sobbed. Mckenzie was so confused. Calum and Michael left the girls and ran outside since they couldn't go with them. What were they looking for? That's when it clicked. There were only five of them. Where was Maria?

Her dream shifted again. It was raining. She looked around. The buildings were tall and the sky was dark. The only light came from the few street lights on the street. The road was made of stone. Rain pooled between the cracks and made bigger puddles where the ground was uneven. Mckenzie tried to move the rest of her body, but all she could move was her head. In the middle of the scene was a boy, tapping his foot anxiously. His hair was flattened onto his forehead and his shoulders were shaking slightly. Mckenzie looked towards the splashing footsteps she heard off to her left. A girl was running down the street towards the boy, her long dyed red hair blowing behind her. She ran into his arms and they held onto each other, rocking back and forth. The girl was considerably shorter than the boy. When they let go of each other, she put her hands on his cheeks.

"Baby, what's wrong?" Mckenzie watched curiously.

He put his hands over hers. "No matter what happens, remember that I love you." The girl's eyebrows furrowed.

"What are you talking about?" The boy looked over his shoulder quickly, still holding the girl's hands to his face.

"We don't have much time." He took his hands off of hers and grabbed a small box out of his pocket.

"Why don't we have-"

"This is for you," he said, opening the box for her. A ring with a scarlet colored jewel was inside. The girl covered her mouth with her hand.
