Chapter Twenty-Three- The Last Present

As soon as the party ended Rey began to clean up . "Thanks for everything Rey " Ben said as he helped her pick up some of the trash .

"You're welcome Ben ... It was nice to meet some of your family ... I think they'll be great for the baby" Rey said.

"You know ..." He began "no one has ever been this nice to me..."

"What ?" She looked up "what do you mean?"

"No one has ever gone through so much trouble for me ... Planning a party ... Getting my favorite foods ... Baking my favorite pie , inviting all my family ... Getting my favorite movies all around " he said .

"Well ... That's not your only present ... Come with me" she said and reached out her hand.

Ben grabbed it and she pulled him outside . She pulled him to the dock where she had told him she was pregnant.

"Here " she handed him a book .

"What ?" He asked .

"Read it" she encouraged him.

He opened the book .

Dear Ben ,

When I first found out I was pregnant, I cried and was worried with fears.

When I told you I was pregnant and you said you didn't want me or the baby my heart dropped ...

I couldn't stop thinking about the way you kissed me and touched ...you were so gentle and kind ... I wondered why I couldn't have that Ben back.

When I was first at the doctor's for my first ultrasound and they kicked everyone one and you stayed I was nervous .

Nervous to hear your disapproval... Nervous to seen you flip me off .

But you didn't ... You didn't ... You watched in awe as the small bean popped on the screen. You listened carefully to the thumping of the baby's heart beat.

When the doctor went to leave and you shook her hand I could feel as if the small bump was smiling at you.

As the days went on and I grew we grew.

When Richard was shaking those awful things to me and you defended me I had never been so proud .

When I was in the hospital , getting ready to leave , the doctor told me that you prayed ... You prayed that we'd be okay ...

We've grown so close , and so much... This may seem cheesy but I talk about you often.

Though I haven't felt a kick yet I imagine that the baby is pressing it's ear to my belly , as if it was asking more about you .

I talk about you so much to our smol bean ... I tell it how kind you are , how smart you are , how supportive and caring ... Also that our child will grow up without any of this new teenage crap.

Ben , I couldn't have thought of anyone better to share this with ... And I'm proud to call you the father of my child ... You mean so much to me Ben and I can't tell you how amazing you are.

Over these past two months I've gotten that Ben back ... And I don't ever wanna let him go ...
