"Hey little one, don't be afraid, I just want to see you"
Dried out leaves crunched under my boots as I took small, tentative steps. The leaves were a carpet of brown and red. Moon light poured through the openings in the tree canopy. An occasional leaf would fall, the morning dew still clinging on to them from the early morning. I hear the soft tweet of birds and the bubbling and rushing of a distant creek. A baby deer stood in front of me, eyes wide and fearful but overtaken by overwhelming curiosity. Small white spots dotted it's back clashing with the light brown.
Those colors would be great in a painting or a picture, maybe I should take up photography sometime?"Shhh baby girl, you can trust me"
The fawn was mere inches away from my hand now. I was on one knee, stretching out my arm to the deer, careful not to startle it.
"SKY!"
And just like that it was gone. I let out a frustrated sigh as I got up, brushing off remnants of leafs from my jeans.
" Aisling, you know not to come out here alone!"
"I'm sorry sissy but mama wanted you for dinner"
Aisling's my sister, she's only six, but has the biggest ideas. She asks questions like
"Do you think ladybugs and beetles are cousins?"
And considering she knew the whole periodic table by four, I'd say she's pretty smart. Even if she's my step dads daughter. And let's just say he's not not the sweetest of people.
"Aisling, just second I need to log this down"
"Of course you do" she said, annoyed. She never understood why I loved nature so much. She just thought it was all mud, sunburns and weird, creepy animals. Maybe I loved it so much because I could somehow predict what was going to happen to it all, that soon it would all be no more.
I got up quickly, kicking up leaves and grabbed my log, I keep everything about animals in my log. I know the exact population of deer, snakes, rabbits, etc. I even know which pair of deer likely had that baby. I have always had a passion for nature. Probably because they have so many things I couldn't have, like unlimited freedom and the ability to do whatever they wanted.

"Okay Aisling, let's go"
On our way out I looked up at the sky. Beautiful wisps of white against bright blue. The tree canopy was in stark contrast. Especially the floating white ball of light. Wait, What? It was beautiful, a low glow of white light emitted from it. It was about the size of a pool ball but so much different in every way. I was in trance as I reached up to grab it. And then it was gone just as quickly as it had appeared.
What was that? Just ignore it I told myself, it's nothing. But I was oh so wrong.I know it's slow right now and needs editing but it will get better . Please leave a comment to say what you think! :) I will try to update this story at least one a week.
