"Aisling, do you think stars get lonely?"
Aisling and me were sitting on the porch swing. She was concentrated solely on the on the caterpillar that had decided to crawl on her boot as she thought. They were caked over with mud from a puddle she wanted to jump in. Mud was one of natures gifts that she actually cared about. I gazed at stars, soaking up their beauty, wanting to remember this later.
"But stars aren't people, they can't feel" she answered, staring up at me."But maybe stars are like animals, we know the facts but still don't understand them, really."
"When's Daddy gonna get home?"
*Sigh*
"Aisling, do you love Daddy?
"Of course I do!"
The ball of light was far from my mind now. That's one of the bad things about Aisling. She's so naive. She's seen what he can do. But my mom is just like her, not willing to accept the facts. She's protects Aisling when ever she can. I remember how my mom was when my dad was still alive, how she would play dolls with me, singing while she worked and she had the most beautiful smile. Now she's just an empty shell of a person. Always wondering if she might be dead the next morning.
"Come on, we need to go inside now"
"But whyyyyy?"Aisling said enhancing her words with big puppy dog eyes.
"Because Mommys waiting for us"
She crosses her arms and let out a annoyed whine but complied and bounced off the porch swing into the house making unimaginable noise.
As soon as I stepped foot in the house I could hear the buzz and talk of the TV. I only caught snippets of word such as
