Jenna what the heck is this

My feelings

You're weird

Thank you

I smile to myself at her antics. Jenna can be overwhelming and an over thinker but she can be quite humorous sometimes. Seth and Jenna were my only friends and I had good reason for that to. They make me forget about the hardships at home and bring a little sunshine in my life, besides Aisling of course. My stepfather made it hard for me to trust anyone so having just two solid friends in my life was good enough for me. Everything was hard yet balanced, everything was okay and I could live with. Once something is balanced its easy to push it over. Just like Jenna's feelings.
That's why I was listening to Jenna's "feelings" at midnight when I should really be asleep. The glow of the phone was the only light in the room as I read Jenna's texts. The sound of crickets could be heard from the outside until it was interrupted by a steady dripping sound. I looked up and saw a growing wet spot on the ceiling, the center dripping water on my bed. I sigh getting up out of bed searching for something to catch the water then I remembered Aisling had a vase in her bedroom for when her and me went to go pick wild flowers when we went the woods.
I carefully crept into her bedroom, trying not to disturb her sleep. All the walls were a soft purple color, The walls recently used to be gray but she had suddenly started to complain over the color and she never told me why no how much I tried to get out of her. So as a result I scrapped together enough money to paint the walls. As I reached for the vase on her dresser I started to hear noises coming for her bed.
Just like sheets crinkling.
As I turned around I saw she had started moving around in the sheets, quick, stressed movements while turning over and over in her sleep. She moaned and cried softly, her face scrunched together in anguish. It appeared as if she was having a really bad nightmare. The kind where everything's too real and you feel like you're falling deeper and deeper into the dream.
I run over to her bedside and gently shake her shoulders.
"Aisling, Aisling, Wake up!"
When she finally comes out of her dream state tears start to flow down her cheeks. Her soft sobs fill the room as I put her head to my chest. I whisper comforting words to her as I stroke her soft hair.
"Ashy what was happening in your dream?" I questioned after she had finally calmed down.
"Everything was ga-gray and dusty and everyone was da-dead"
I didn't want prod her forward but this doesn't happen in 6 year olds nightmares, where the worst thing that happens is a monster chasing you.
"What else happened?"
"Before that there was a big boom and everyone was sick then they died"
She seemed to be describing the events of an explosion but I don't think they teach you about Hiroshima in kindergarten. She reads a lot to but I always check it first and for sure wouldn't let her read about bombs. Then it clicked.
She's had this dream before.
She's hates the landscape of the gray so she's hated her walls that way to.
But I still couldn't find out why she would have this nightmare. But I was going to find really soon.
