Sofia POV
"Your teeth are looking fabulous!" I exclaimed. I was with a young boy that was about eight for his regular check up. I set the mirror behind his teeth and began working at his teeth. He needed a cleaning today but, I wanted him to know how good he was doing. He nodded and I could see the joy in his face. He really wanted to be a pediatric dentist when he got older, just like me. So, he cared for his teeth greatly.
"Alright, you're all set. And your teeth are looking great! Heres a prize," I moved the tin can in my office, closer to him and he glanced at all the prizes. Pencils, small toy cars, bouncy balls, and plastic rings for the girls. He grabbed a small toy car and grinned at me.
"Thank you, Ms. Sofia!" He then bolted from my office and down the hall towards the place where his parents were waiting for him.
I shuffled papers that contained information of all five kids that I'd seen that day. As far as I knew, I didn't have anymore but I had about two hours left before I could go home. Besides, I needed to tidy my office, so this was the perfect opportunity to do so. I straightened the picture of my dog that sat beside my small flower pot on my desk.
She was back home, with my family. Because when I found this job, I was told that it wasn't a pediatric dentist in my home town, but more a pediatric dentist in Africa. But I was okay. I loved to be around all of the kids. And every Christmas I would go and visit my family. My mother and father. And my sheltie, Charley.
I straightened as a knock sounded on my office door. It was obviously my boss. I turned around and sent him a smile. He leaned on the door, fixing his striped tie. A grey mustache covered the space between his upper lip and his nose. He looked like a boss. Sorta fancy but not too fancy.
"Ms. Sofia, I have a bit of good news for you." His voice was pretty deep.
"Yes sir?"
"Well, we're clearing out my old office." I got really excited. His old office was huge. And if he was going where I think he might be going with this, I'll have a new office by Wednesday! "And I have a man by the name of Niall Horan coming to help you with all the kids. He's from Ireland and he's great with kids, so I'm sure you'll both get along great!" My smile dropped. He... he had hired another person and suddenly they were more important than me?
"Ummm... that's great news, sir." I tried to hide the disappointment in my voice. It was obvious he didn't even notice the smile drop from my face.
"And, I'm giving you the rest of the day off." He walked away from my office and towards his new one. I gathered my bag and wiped angry tears from my eyes. How could this guy be so much more important than me, that he gets the biggest possible office with one of the lowest possible ranks?
I waved a small goodbye to the beautiful receptionist at the front desk. I kinda envied her perfect complexion, and the beautiful shade of chocolate brown her skin was. It was practically glowing. And her name. Nia was so unique that I couldn't help but be a little jealous.
As opened the door to my small house and sighed. There it was, an otherwise perfect day ruined. I heard a small meow as I flounced down my old, used couch.
"C'mere Tiger!" I called, lightly tapping the floor. My kitten came scurrying out from behind my desk and ran to me. I was lonly without anyone in the house, so my family suggested a cat. He was a bit of work but not too much. The cat was almost therapy to me as I settled down in bed and he cuddled up on my chest. I lightly stroked him until I felt myself fall asleep.

The day came in which Niall would be joining us all in the office. I had sorta forgotten about him until I saw Nia fastening a 'Welcome' poster above the archway that lead to all of the offices. I ignored it until the end of the day. It's not like I cared. He could... he could... have his office crash down for all I care.
"Sweety, I promise that this won't hurt at all!" I cooed the four year old little girl that I was giving a check up. She was terrified and every time I tried to use my tools, she screamed bloody murder and started sobbing even harder. Finally I gave up. There was nothing that I felt like I could do. Because she was terrified of everything about the dentist. Then an idea came to me. It was an idea that I didn't like but it was all I could do. I needed to find Niall.
I found him in his new office. Despite not knowing him, I confidently knocked on his door, letting him know I was there. He looked up from the little boy that he was finishing up with and sent me a smile. It was breathtaking.
"Alright, buddy. Here's a prize!" Niall gave the boy a bouncy ball and patted the boy's back.
"Thanks Mr. Horan!"
"I have a girl that just won't cooperate. She's terrified," I said looking into his bright blue eyes. We both made our way to my office and find the little girl waiting. As I had told her to.
"Alright sweety! I'm gonna hold your hand." Niall grabbed the little girl's hand and ran his thumb across it. My hate for him was dwindling into a crush. He was adorable, with his black framed glasses, and the little bit of stubble on his chin and around his cheeks.
"That wasn't so bad," the girl mumbled slightly. Well, yeah. It's not like I did anything other than clean her teeth. She picked out a plastic ring as she went out the door.
"Thank you," I whispered as I started to clean up everything. It was my last patient so it was time to clean up my office.
"So, ummm... I wanna learn about you," Niall reached for my tools and started throwing the used ones away.
"Well, I came her from an offer in my hometown, and I live just down the street now with my cat, Tiger," I explained. Niall nodded as we both cleaned up.
It turned out, we both had a lot in common. One factor being our love for kids. And since we both cleaned up so fast together, we decided to give each other check ups. I sat him down in my chair and examined his pearly whites. Which he obviously cared for greatly.
"I think you need your wisdom teeth removed," Niall mumbled. I immediately shook. I'd never had surgery let alone surgery in my mouth.
"Really?" I asked, my breath shaking. Niall nodded slightly but looked me in the eyes.
"I'm experienced, don't worry. I know exactly what I'm doing. I'm just gonna give you a shot that'll put you to sleep. Count the seconds until you wake up," Niall said soothingly, as he gave me a shot in my arms.
Really, all we needed was a bit of bonding time together. Because even though I sorta hated the idea of Niall in the beginning, we started dating. And we do a lot together. We like to volunteer a lot, so that's a good thing. And we definitely love each other. We are now a happy couple, helping in Africa.
