Niall rested his head in the palm, pushing the food on his plate around. He didn't exactly feel like eating that night, but he knew if he didn't, Liam would be on him. He'd moved out of his flat, considering the constant reminder of his ex lover was too much. But being the best mate he is, Liam decided to let the broken blonde stay with him.
"Liam, do I have to eat it all?" Niall whimpered, looking over at the slightly older man, who'd eaten over half of his meal. It had been a silent meal for most of the time. But that's really how Niall wanted it at the time because it had only been a few days since the heartbreaking call.
Liam noticed the blonde's slightly green complexion, understanding that he wasn't feeling good at all that night.
"Do you wanna go lay down?" Liam asked knowingly as tears welled up in Niall's blue eyes. Niall nodded, picking up his plate as he rose from Liam's comfortable dining chairs. "No, leave your plate. I'll get it, buddy." Liam was trying his best to be helpful, because he knew exactly what it felt like to have this happen- For someone to fall out of love with you. So he decided to help out as long as it took for Niall to feel better, or longer if needed.
And it took Niall a good year to get over it. Niall had almost completely forgotten about Harry. And the blonde found that he enjoyed being with Liam quite a bit. There were, of course, certain days where Niall wished he could just cuddle up with Harry but he knew he had to forget about that.
It was the day of Niall's birthday when it happened. Liam was in his flat kitchen baking a cake whilst keeping a sharp eye on his phone. He needed to make sure everything was going well with Louis and Niall since Louis had taken Niall out to get some clothes. It's what Niall had requested for his birthday, and being the all knowing person he was, Louis decided Niall would much rather pick out his clothes.
So Liam busied himself with making a cake that he'd seen on Instagram, thanks to Niall himself. It wasn't too hard to do but the brunette wanted it to be perfect for Niall's birthday. It was all Niall talked about that week, how he wanted to invite over all of his friends- even Zayn for a birthday celebration.
Liam wasn't only baking a cake. Liam had already blown up a bunch of balloons and hung streamers. He had already asked Niall what he expected for his birthday dinner, of course, getting Nando's as a reply. Liam wanted everything perfect for the blonde, knowing this was a day that he'd been looking forward too.
The loud ping of the door bell made Liam jump slightly, pulling him out of the concentration of icing the cake. Who on earth could be at the door? Louise had promised to be there at five and it was only three thirty. And Zayn was expected to be there at four. No one else was supposed to be there that early.
Liam set the piping bag that was full of green icing down on the counter and huffed. He was in full concentration mode and absolutely hated anyone to break it. Liam swing open the front door, coming face to face with last person he expected to be there.
Harry.
"W-what are you doing here?" Liam observed the curly headed man practically disgusted. Harry was stood in black boots, and skinny jeans which were ripped at the knees. He sported a jumper which was open to show a plain tee. Liam found it silly that Harry was wearing a jumper because it was actually quite a warm day.
"Is Niall here?" He asked, glancing behind the older man nervously. Liam could see him visibly shaking and that his shoulders looked absolutely tense.
"Harry, it's his birthday. Why should he have to spend a good day like today home?" Liam asked, curtly, already getting a bit annoyed with the youngest. Harry didn't reply as he looked down at his feet.
