Hogwarts is having a New Year's eve party also. It's going to be in the Great Hall, and all schools can come. It won't be like the ball. It's casual, but everyone is dressing up. My roommates insist on dressing me, and Lila lends me a dress. They do my makeup really dramatically, with dark eyeshadow, and long falsies. My lipstick is blood red, and they tease my hair a little, so it has volume. "George Weasley is going to be sorry." Allie says. The other two girls nod in agreement. "Let's go party!" Alicia exclaims.
In the common room, all the boys stare as we come down the stairs. "Now boys, I know we're all very stunning." Alicia begins. "But please keep in mind that there's only four of us." I finish. Everyone is silent. "Shall we?" I ask them. "Let's party!" Allie says.
Before we can get out the door however, Draco comes up to me. "Black? You hate that color." He says. "You tried to cut yourself off from me Draco, so I don't see where my wardrobe concerns you." I sneer. He steps back. Then he grabs my arm and leads me to an empty corner of the room. "I beat up Weasel for you!" He exclaims. "You would've loved to anyway." I say, examining my nails. "Bells, don't do this. I know he hurt you, but you're so kind." He says. "Purebloods like you build a wall Draco. Teach me." I say. "No." He says. "You've always kept me sane. You've always kept me grounded. I need you." He says. "Draco honestly. I tried being a "blood traitor" and I was ridiculed. Now I want to embrace being a Pureblood. Maybe I can finally get somewhere." I say. "One month. If you're not happy, you're Bells again. Deal?" He asks. I smirk, trying to imitate pictures of my father I've seen. "Deal."
The party is in full swing when we get there. "I bet someone has spiked the punch already!" Lila says. I feel an arm wrap around my waist. "Why drink that when you can have the real thing?" Blaise asks, handing us all cups with a wink. "I've never had firewhiskey before." I say nervously. Draco appears with a cup of his own. "You want to be a Pureblood? Don't fear anything, and rules only apply when someone's watching." He says. Smiling, I take a gulp of the alcohol, and it burns my throat. I like it.
Before I've finished my cup, Fred finds me. "You're drinking?" He asks, clearly worried. I turn from the circle I'm standing in. "It affects you how?" I ask. "He takes in my outfit. "Are you okay?" He asks. I laugh, as do all my friends. "I've never been better. Run along back to that piece of scum brother of yours." I say. "You don't want to hang out with me?" He asks. "I'm busy Fred." I say. "Meet me in the entrance hall at two." He says before walking away. "I thought he'd never leave!" Blaise says. I force myself to laugh along with everyone else.
Lila, Alicia, and Allie pull me onto the dance floor. "Can't you dance?" Allie asks, doing a few moves I wouldn't exactly call dancing. I laugh and shake my head. "Try this." Alicia says, shaking her butt. "Go on." Lila urges. Finally, I turn and copy them. They clap. I copy their next moves, although I feel like my mother wouldn't exactly approve. But who am I to care? We spend the next few hours dancing and drinking. "Is this what Purebloods do?" I ask. "Every weekend." Alicia says. "Get used to it." Allie winks.
Soon, it's five till midnight. "You can really hold your liquor." Blaise says. "I've only had three cups." I say. "You're not even tipsy?" He asks. I giggle. "Nope." It's eleven fifty-nine, and the countdown starts. "Do you know what happens at midnight on New Year's?" Blaise asks. I smirk. "I think so, but maybe you should show me just to be sure." I say.
Five.
Blaise stares into my eyes.
Four.
He lays a hand on the side of my face.
Three.
He pulls me closer and closer.
Two.
"Happy New Year." He whispers.
One.
His lips touch mine, and it feels like I'm on fire, and ice is tearing through my veins. His arms wrap around my waist, and mine go around his neck. We stand there for who knows how long, and when we pull away, we're both gasping for breath. "Be my girl?" Blaise asks. "Of course." I reply.
At two, I'm waiting in the hall with my cup of firewhiskey while the party goes on. "What Fred? My friends and boyfriend are waiting." I say. "Don't do this." He pleads. "Why not? I got made fun of for being a blood-traitor. I didn't fit in anyway. If I did, that prank wouldn't have happened and you wouldn't have taken part." I say. "Who's your boyfriend?" He asks. "Blaise Zabini." I reply. "What?" Fred asks. "Did I stutter? Don't judge who I date and what I do!" I sneer. Jenna comes outside and takes in Fred's look of anger and disgust. "She betrayed us JC." He says. "If I recall correctly, you betrayed me first, hypocrite." I say. "Fred, Bella is allowed to make her own choices. If she thinks dating a Slytherin is a good choice, let her do it." She says. "No! I thought she was my friend but she's really just a traitor!" Fred yells. "I could say the same for you!" I retort. "Fred, Bella, please. I can't handle screaming." Jenna says shakily. "It doesn't concern you!" Fred screams. "Don't scream at me!" Jenna yells. "Don't be a wimp!" Fred screams. "That's it! I can't take it!" Jenna exclaims. "So that's it? We're done?" Fred asks. Jenna nods. "I guess we are." She replies. "Fine." Fred says.
"Fine." Jenna replies.
"Fine!" Fred yells, storming back into the party.
Jenna falls against the wall crying. I rush over to her. "I'm sorry. It's all my fault!" I exclaim. She shakes her head. "Nobody can control you except you." She says. "It's just that, after things that happened in my past, Fred finally made me feel happy and special." She sobs. "What happened in the past?" I ask gently. She pulls down the neckline of her dress a little, and written very clearly in scars, is the word fugly. "My ex was abusive. He screamed at me and hit me, and when I tried to break up with him, that's what he did. It happed almost a year ago. He cursed it so it would disappear whenever I found someone that made me truly happy. I felt it reappear just now." She sobs. "Oh Jenna that's awful. Maybe you should go to your dorm and lie down." I say, eyeing my friends. She nods and walks up the stairs.
"Care to dance?" Blaise asks when I get back in. "I'd love to." I reply. Blaise takes me onto the dance floor and although nobody else is, Blaise twirls me around, doing one of the dances we learned at the ball. As I'm giggling and being twirled, I see George staring at me, a single tear rolling down his cheek. He had a chance and he broke my heart for money. Now it's time for me to find who I am. George Weasley is not a part of me anymore. He can cry and beg and plead all he wants to, but I'm not sure which was more painful: George breaking my heart, or the torture I endured at the world cup.
