***A lot happens in this chapter...including something that you didn't want to! Grab your tissues, people, and be prepared...for GREATNESS!!!1 :D And the ending is a little gruesome. I'm surprised I could actually write something like that! >:D ***
Chapter 27
We all teleported to the outskirts of D.C. with the help of Arin. Just by holding hands, she was able to get us there in less than three seconds instead of an hour and a half.
It was the weirdest feeling, teleporting. It was like being sucked through a vacuum and your lungs were constricted so you couldn’t breathe. And when we got there, every one of us took deep breaths…unlike Arin, who was breathing the exact same.
“You guys are such babies,” she said, rolling her eyes.
“How in the hell do you put up with doing that all the time?” Talen asked, shaking his head, and she just grinned.
Just then, we all stopped to listen as we heard the sound of jets flying toward us. They were quieter than normal jets so it took us a moment to realize how close they were.
I turned to Owen, knowing it was my time to leave.
“Be careful,” he said, taking my face in his hands. “I’ll meet you on the next road over from the Mall, okay? You remember the one?”
I nodded. “Yeah, I remember,” I said. “Don’t do anything without me, though.”
“Alright,” he said, and leaned down to kiss me.
It kind of felt like a final goodbye kiss, one that I really didn’t want to be feeling right then. I didn’t want it to be a goodbye kind of kiss. I wanted it to be the one that was filled with the promise of tomorrow and forever.
When we both pulled apart, we looked at each other for another moment before I sighed.
“I’ll see you in a little while,” I said.
He nodded, stepping back from me.
I lifted the air under my feet, sending me flying up into the air.
Right when I did, the five jets I’d seen in my vision flew past me. It swirled my hair around my face as I watched them head toward the National Mall. I followed closely until I could feel the head of the engines brushing my skin.
Just like in my vision, the five of them stopped right over the Mall. The people started coming out of the buildings and standing up from the places they were sitting on the lawn. I wanted to scream at them to run…but that’s when the first bomb was dropped.
I couldn’t do anything as it hit the ground, exploding on impact. The screams immediately started and I knew I had to do something. The other bombs in the other four jets dropped and exploded as they hit the ground before I could even do anything.
Immediately, I brought both of my hands forward, one aimed at two of the jets and the other aimed at another two. With my right, I forced the air toward them so that it completely crushed them. I could feel my hand shaking at the strength it took to do it.
With my left hand, I moved almost half of the water from the reflecting pond and tossed it over the other two jets, completely encasing them in the water. I clenched my hand in a fist, freezing the jets into ice. It dropped to the ground, but didn’t break.
I dropped my arms in exhaustion closing my eyes as I dropped to the ground, landing on my feet. But then I realized that I missed one jet.
When I opened my eyes, it was flying away. It must have gotten hit by the air that I crushed the two others with because it was smoking and wobbling slightly as it flew away.
