Chapter 22

It had been a few days since the whole Project Infinity thing.  Owen and I told everyone everything that had to do with it.  Well, we tried at least.  We really didn't have that much to go through since we only had the list of names and what I saw in my vision, but we managed.

I hadn't had another vision about the group who broke into the Secretary of Defense's office.  Actually, I hadn't had another vision at all since then.  Not even one in my dreams.  I was getting a little worried about it also.  But on Thursday night, I didn't have to worry anymore.

I just had to worry about new things.

I was having the vision of when Owen was fighting the guy with the swords.  I watched in horror as the scene played out until it slowed to when the guy rammed the sword through Owen’ stomach and out his back.  I started screaming as I ran toward him.

There was a bright blue light that appeared, blinding me for a few moments while I ran toward where Owen was lying on the ground.  And when I could see again, there he was.  The blood was pooling underneath his body and his breaths were coming in short gasps as I leaned down toward him.

"You'll be fine.  Just fine!" I cried.

His gasped became more labored as his eyes found mine.  "You're going to be okay," he said softly.  "Even without me there."

"Please don't do this," I cried, tears streaming down my face, and I pressed my lips to his cheek.  "Don't leave me."

"You'll...be...alright," he said.

His breath was coming in even more hurriedly...until he wasn't breathing anymore.  His eyes were still open, but the light had gone completely out of them.

I woke up with a gasp, tears till streaming down my face.  I brought my knees to my chest and rested my forehead against it, trying to calm myself down.  I knew something that would work even better...well, rather someone.

I pushed the covers off of me and climbed out of bed, padding over to my closed door.   As I stepped out into the hallway, I made sure I was quiet as I walked to the door across the hallway from mine.  I opened it and quickly went inside before I woke anyone up.

I'd only seen the inside of Owen's room a few times, but I knew where most of his furniture was.  I walked over to the side of his bed and looked down at his sleeping form.  In the moonlight, I could see his mouth was slightly open and his eyes were jumping around behind his lids.  Maybe he was having a good dream.  If so, he was the only one of the two of us.

I slowly pulled back his covers and slid in beside him.  His sheets were warm and I just wanted to get closer to him to get more of it, but I didn't want to wake him.  But then his breathing changed and I saw his eyes open slowly to look at me.

"Lola?" he asked, his voice husky from sleep.  "What are you doing?"

"I'm sorry," I said shakily.  Just the sound of his voice made tears come to my eyes again.  "I just had a bad dream."

His eyes widened in realization and he turned over on his side toward me.  He them wrapped his arm around me, pulling me against his chest.  My tears started flowing even heavier as I leaned my head against his chest.

"Lola, what happened it in?" he asked, kissing the top of my head.

"It was the one about you," I cried.  "Only this time it was longer and you...you..."

He ran a hand through my hair and rubbed my back comfortingly.  "I what?" he asked.

"You died!  Right there in my arms!"
