Chapter 18

Owen kept glancing back at me on the drive to school.  I tried not to meet his eyes in the mirror, but failed a couple of times.  And when I did, he would grin at me.

Maverick poked me in the back of the head as we pulled into the parking lot of the school and I turned around to see both him and Talen wiggling their eyebrows at me.  I rolled my eyes, resisting the urge to reach back and smack them both on the backs of their heads.

“Well, this should be fun,” Variel said from beside me as Arin opened the doors.

“Why?” I asked as I stepped out of the Escalade.

I had my back toward the school where I knew everyone would be standing.  I could already feel their eyes on me.

Variel and Arin both looked toward the school as the twins got out the back.  I felt Owen walk up right beside me and saw Trygg come up on my other side.  Once the doors were shut, we all stayed in our circle for a few more moments.  Everyone was looking at me.

“What?” I asked.

Arin smirked.  “You’re dressed to kill,” she said.  “Be prepared for many more stares.”

Talen nodded.  “Because you’re looking smokin’ hot,” he said.

Owen reached over and smacked the back of his head just like I was itching to do when we pulled in.  “Shut it, Talen,” he said, narrowing his eyes at him.

Talen rubbed the back of his head, wincing once while he grinned.  “Well, I’m not the one who was caught in a very compromising position this morning in a certain smokin’ hot woman’s bed,” he said.

My jaw dropped as everyone started laughing, all except for me and Owen.  While I was looking at everyone with a shocked expression on my face, he was looking at them with narrowed eyes.  I didn’t see how they knew anything about that.

“They find out about anything that happens in the house,” Arin said, reading the question in my mind.

“Well, that’s just great,” I said.

Shaking my head, I turned and started walking toward the school.  I could now see what Arin and Variel were looking at when we got out of the Escalade.

Everyone was looking at me.  The girls were looking at me like I was a total bitch and the guys were looking at me with lust in their eyes.  It made a smirk come on my face.

I felt electric tingles spread through the left side of my body and I looked over to see Owen walking beside me.  Everyone else was a good twenty feet away, grinning as they watched the two of us and everyone else staring.

“Everyone seems to be blowing this way out of proportion, don’t you think?” Owen asked, looking down at me.

I nodded, turning my head back forward.  But then my gaze trailed to a certain group.

Michelle and Ally were grinning at me as they looked back and forth between me and Owen.  Ally pointed to her shirt.

“Matching clothes?” she mouthed to me.

I rolled my eyes, shaking my head.  “Don’t ask,” I mouthed back, and they both laughed.

I looked over at Caleb then, who had his arm draped yet again over his apparent new girlfriend’s shoulder.  I’d only found out the Friday before that her name was Aspen Dessen.

Just then, Owen pulled my arm through his.  I looked up at him, raising an eyebrow, and he just grinned back, shrugging.  Looking back over at Caleb, I saw his jaw clench as he glared at Owen.
