Chapter 12
Both Owen and I didn’t know what to do other than stare at his hands as the ball of energy formed in his palms. His eyes were so wide when I looked over at him and the light coming from his hands was being reflected in them.
“What’s going on?” he asked, his voice just barely over a whisper. He didn’t seem like he was in pain anymore, just totally freaked out about what he was doing right now.
“Owen, it’s okay,” I said, moving closer to him so that I was seated on the bed in front of him and his glowing hands.
His eyes moved to mine over the ball of energy. “This isn’t normal,” he said.
I smiled slightly, shaking my head. “No, it’s not. But we’ll talk you through it, okay?”
Owen nodded as both of us looked back down at his hands again. The ball of energy was steady now, hovering just a few inches above his palms.
Cautiously, I lifted my hands to wrap them around his wrists. I knew not to even get near the energy in his palms.
“Okay, you’re going to have to calm down, okay? Just relax and visualize the energy getting smaller until you can’t see it. You’re still going to feel it inside you, but that’s normal.”
Owen nodded again and concentrated on his hands. I just watched him, making sure he was okay. I guess, somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew just what to do because before I could blink, the energy in his hands was gone. The sparks that were always between us before were even stronger now, though, just like it had been before he ‘died.’
I smiled at him, moving my hands to grasp onto his. “There, you did it,” I said.
“Oh, my God,” we heard someone say from behind us.
Both Owen and I looked toward his door to see everyone standing there in their pajamas. And I mean everyone, all nine and Bade, sitting down beside Chloe.
“Zack should be here any minute,” Arin said, staring at Owen just like everyone was.
“Finally!” Variel said then, breaking the tension in the room.
“Finally?” I asked, though I knew just what she was going on about. “You’re talking about your…”
She grinned…and her hair turned bright blue as we looked at her. “I don’t have to keep the one color anymore!” she exclaimed.
I grimaced, looking over at Owen. His eyes were even wider than they had been when he had the ball of energy in his hands just a few moments before.
“What…How…You…” he stumbled, trying to comprehend just what happened.
I squeezed his hands, getting his attention back to me. When his eyes came back to mine, I smiled. “We’re going to explain,” I said. “We’ll have to show you everything that we can do.”
“Everything you can do?” Owen asked, his eyes flicking back to Variel’s bright blue hair once more. “What are you talking about?”
But just then, Zack stepped through everyone, looking at Owen.
“So it’s happened?” he asked.
I nodded, getting up from the bed. “Yeah, it did,” I said.
Zack turned to everyone. “Okay, everyone. All of you out except for Lola,” he said, shooing them out with his hands.
“Aw, come on!” Talen complained. “The old Owen’s back.”
