Chapter 6
He watched her through his dark tinted windows as she walked across the parking lot of the school. She was smiling as she did, pulling her car keys out of her pocket.
But then, as if she sensed him watching her, she slowed and lifted her head, looking around. Her eyes skimmed past his car and he thought she would recognize it, but she didn’t.
“So are we getting the Carver girl?” the guy sitting in the passenger seat asked. “Wasn’t that the plan for this little excursion?”
He shook his head as he continued to look at her. “No, leave her. We’re not in need of her anymore.”
“Then what are we doing here?”
In truth, he just wanted to see her. He would never say that to him, though.
“We’re leaving,” he said, and put the car in reverse to back out of the parking spot.
As he drove down the street, he turned onto the road that would lead him to the interstate going north.
“Where are we going now?”
He grinned, looking over at him as he pulled his phone out from his pocket to hand to the guy beside him. “Call the others. We’re starting it now. We’re going to New York City.”
