Chapter 9

"Get in here!" he heard Alex yell from inside his office. 

He sighed, standing up from the chair he'd been sitting in and walked toward the office door.  He was the only one there besides Alex.  The others were off doing something for him and he wasn’t involved in it.  But when Alex called him into his office, he knew that he’d probably had other plans for him.

Alex was grinning when he stepped into the office.  He stood up from his chair and walked straight toward him, stopping only a foot away.  His heart started to pound.  This couldn’t be good.

“Yes?” he asked, trying to look anywhere but his eyes.  That was how he controlled him.  He didn’t want to be controlled. 

“Look at me straight in the eyes,” Alex said. 

He couldn’t do it.  He couldn’t disobey him, no matter how much he wanted to.  His eyes lifted to Alex’s.

“Yes?” he asked.

Alex was full on grinning now.

“You know what I just found out?  My sister and her little friends are heading out to find some other Ingenium of their own for the government.  The ones that we are going to get instead.  That’s where I’ve sent the others,” he said. 

He swallowed the lump in his throat.  Every time he mentioned her, even if not by name, he felt like his whole world was being destroyed.  All he wanted was to see her again, hold her in his arms, kiss her…

“And you’re going to go back to Portland and try to get the little girl again before they do,” Alex continued.  “But that’s not all that’s going to be happening in Portland.”

He started shaking his head.  He could only imagine what Alex was going to want him to do…

“There’s one more thing,” Alex said, grinning even wider.  “If you see Lola, you’re going to have to do something for me.”

“No…”

“You know you can’t say that to me.  I always get my way,” he said.  “I saw again.  If you see her, you’re going to have to do something for me.”

He saw Alex’s eyes dilate and then go back to normal.  Then, he could feel him inside his head, planting the idea of what he wanted him to do in his mind, making sure that it was what was going to happen. 

“When you see Lola, you’re going to kill her,” Alex said.  “No matter what, you lay your eyes on her, she’s dead.”  He grinned again.  “Now, what are you going to do for me?”

His heart pounding, he said the words that he didn’t want to make come true.  “When I see Lola, I’m going to kill her.”

***Ugh, I know how short those 2 were, but I had to get this chapter in before what happens next!  And you're going to love what happens next!!!1
