"Don't just sit there!" He yelled, teeth clenched and veins popping. My mind was hazy, who was he? Where am I? The room was a dull white, machines hooked up at all sides. With a jolt of realization, I noticed they were hooked onto me! All I could hear was his heavy breathing and this annoying beeping noise filling the room, breaking into my empty mind and relentlessly pounding into my head.
Contrary to this strangers wish, I did just sit there, lost in a tide of darkness and emotions, fighting to remember who this boy was, and why he was yelling at me so fiercely.
"Why won't you answer me?!" He screamed, the anger slowly melting into sadness, I could see it in the boys mysterious blue eyes, "Answer me". The plead echoed in my mind, and I shook my head looking at the ground.
"I.." My voice caught, and I swallowed, slowly fighting to comprehend what's happening "Who are you?"
"You don't remember? Not even me?" He said, voice cracking in multiple places "It's getting worse isn't it? You remembered only a minute ago.."
"What are you talking about?! I can't remember where I am, who you are, or what you're talking about!"
"Do you even know who you are?" He asked slowly, eyes filling with tears as he stared at me desperately. His blue eyes, such a pretty color...they shouldn't be filled with so much pain. Did I do something wrong?
"Who I am..." I trailed off, biting my lip as I sat in deep concentration on who I could possible be, "Am I supposed to? Who am I actually?"
"Rebecca , you're Rebecca. The prettiest, nicest, most talented, smartest girl alive. I'm Daniel..your fiancé. You were in an accident. And....and this is all my fault" He said, looking down at the ground as his voice strained in his agony, tears slowly staining his face. Fiancé? I was engaged?
"Daniel," I said, the name tasting familiar on my lips but being a stranger to my thoughts. "Why were you yelling at me?"
" I miss you Becca. It's been so long since I had a conversation that you actually remembered, I just lost it. But now you've forgotten me even" He said, looking up at me. His blue eyes surrounded by red, making them look more vibrant and agonized then before.
"How long?" I asked, examining my arm which was lanced with scars that held stories I could never tell, or even remember , "How long since this accident?"
"A year." He chocked out " A year in the hospital, a year without you remembering."
His midnight black hair looked tussled, his face holding a smile that could only be considered as tortured and forced.
"I'll try to remember I promise" I gulped, fighting the stinging that was prickling my eyes " Just don't be upset, please. I don't like seeing you in pain. I'll fight to remember, I'll try"
He opened his mouth slightly, sobs starting to shake his body, and then closed it again.
"You've said that before. You have no idea how many times I've relived this conversation Becca. Please, I just need to hear you say 'I love you' can you say that before you slip away again? I'll say it, I love you to no end and will always fight with you. "
I was crying, the hot tears steaming down my face as I stared at this broken man. My mind may not remember, but my heart can remind me of the intense feeling I have for this man.
"I...", yet again, my voice betrayed me as it cracked through the tears. Daniel looked up hopefully, smiling slightly and blue eyes boring right into mine. I had to fight, I had to remember, I couldn't lose myself again, I couldn't. For Daniel, I had to remember. I will try, I won't forget this time. My eyes trailed to the wooden door, a fleeting thought asking if I would ever leave this place,....with him.
I looked back at him, staring into his painful, yet hopeful, expression. His midnight hair and dazzling blue eyes.
"Who are you?"
