Chapter 10: Field of Battle

Adam turned and pulled into the Y's parking lot. Ev got out and pulled out Ben. He was starting to wake up again. Ev dragged him it the makeshift jail cell. Bob had made it back ok and was tended to. He told Adam to go out and find Ev and that's what he did. Jakob, Jim and Ted had continued their job of rebuilding the destroyed part of the Y. Jaden apparently was sitting on guard duty. Ev was gonna freak out about him being out but he was too busy dealing with Ben. After he got him settled in he began to question him.
"Did you have to hit me twice"? Asked Ben as he rubbed his head
"Where are the other three"? Asked Ev
"At the air force base"? Said Ben
"Didn't seem like they were there when I was" said Ev
"Well they were" continued Ben
Ev stood quietly.
"What did you guys find in there"? Asked Ev
"Just dead refugees and dead guards and a boat load of sickos" said Ben
Ev remembered what Ted and the others told him what had happened there.
"So you guys must be pretty stocked up" said Ev
Ben shrugged.
Bob came in from a sprint.
"Ev...Matthew and the others are here" said Bob
"That was quick" said Ev
Jakob stood up behind some cover and watched the three of them get out of the truck with the riot shields. They were now wearing body armor from that they took from the dead guards.
"That's far enough " yelled out Jakob
"We have come to negotiate " said Matthew
"For what"? Asked Jakob
"For Ben " said Miranda
Ev and Bob came outside and saw the sight.
"You give him to us and I will give Ev the Bane of Kings " said Matthew as he looked straight at Ev. Ev felt a chill go down his back. He started to step back as if he was being controlled. He found himself walking down to Ben's cell. He opened the door and grabbed Ben and started to walk him out. He made sure his revolver was loaded and his knives ready. He had Bob open the gate who ended up walking with Ev down to Matthew. The walk was quick but it seemed like an hour before they got to them. Once there everyone was super tense. Matthew looked at Ev.
"Who should've joined us" he said
Ev shook his head.
Matthew unsheathed the Bane of Kings and pulled it out. Ev outstretched his hand slightly. Matthew started to hand it to Ev. Everyone watched quietly waiting for what would happen next. The knife closer and closer to Ev's hand. Matthew then smirked and swung the knife down at Ev's hand. Ev was ready for this and quickly pulled his hand away. Then the chaos in sued. Gunfire erupted on both sides. Ev stayed behind Ben and tried to use him as cover. Bob pulled out his knife and tried to stab Andy but was parried. Miranda sprayed the Y walls with gunfire. The shots had forced Adam, Jim and Ted to take cover. Gen had come outside to see what was happening and she saw it all. Andy continued his assault on Bob, swinging his sword around. Bob managed to dodge most of them but one caught him across the chest. Andy was about to finish off Bob but a knife whizzed by and sliced his shoulder, stopping him. He looked over and saw Ev heading towards him, knives drawn. Another knife flew past him. He readied his sword for the incoming charge. Matthew pulled out Ben's axe and threw it to Ben. Ben then went towards Ev with it. Andy towards him and they both ran at Ev. Ev turned and threw two knives at Ben and then turned to face Andy. One of knives missed Ben the other hit him in the shoulder. Ben stopped and pulled out the knife.
"Ben"!
Ben turned to see who called his name but was hit by an ending of a battleaxe. Ben shook his head and looked over and saw Jakob at the ready with his own axe. Ben growled in anger and engaged him. Andy had knocked Ev down in the initial charge but Ev had gotten up quickly and was swiping fast with his knives. One slash got Andy in the arm. Andy got a couple of good hits with his shield but none with his sword. Miranda had taken cover behind the truck and continued trading shots with the guys on the wall. One shot blew buy and hit Jim in the arm. Ben swung his axe hard at Jakob, he dodged it then gave a return swing to Ben who blocked it with his handle. Jakob grabbed the bloody knife and then jabbed Ben in the side with it. Ben winced and took the stab. He took this moment to punch Jakob in the face, knocking him back. Ev and Andy continued to exchange blows with each other. Ev then noticed Matthew standing to his right. He was loading his Ak. Ev grabbed Andy and spun him so he was facing Matthew then he held a knife to his throat. Matthew aimed his Ak at them.
"Don't do it" said Ev
"Please..." begged Andy
Matthew chuckled and then fired the entire clip at them.
